Almost 10 Month Old Not Crawling!! ECI Is to Evaluate

Ok my almost 10 month old is not crawling yet!! She is not even trying! Now she is 5 weeks premature and she was really late at rolling over, but she has been rolling over for about a month or so now. All she does is reach for things or spins around until she finds something, or cries. If she were at least scooting I wouldn't be worried, but shes not. So I talked to the doctor yesterday and I am setting up for Early Childhood Intervention to come and evalute her. Has anyone else had this problem? Has Early Childhood helped? If so how does the process work? Oh she does sit up but I have to put her that way, and she is talking and laughing like normal actually I have been told she is ahead in that deparment so I'm not too worried about that.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

ECI is working well she started crawling but now she is delayed in walking. Everytime the physical therapist comes in I see more and more progress!

You are doing the right thing...ECI is wonderful and my nephew benefitted from physical therapy to help him develop the muscles necessary to crawl, sit up on his own, etc. Good for you for being so proactive. They will set up a plan that will work for you!

Just wanted to let you know that you're not alone....my 10 month old little girl isn't crawling either and doesn't seem to want to. She just sits! At her 9 month check up, the pedi said she's developing at a slower rate than most babies her age but wasn't too worried. I was stressing out about it (b/c we have tons of friends with babies the same age that are crawling, walking, etc.), but now I'm just letting my daughter take the lead and we do have TONS of floor time during the day.

We have used ECI in the past for my 3 yr. olds speech delays, but ended up going with a private therapy company after a few months of ECI coming to the house. Good luck to you and hopefully our kiddos will be on the move soon :)

The daughter of a friend of mine didn't begin crawling until she was 12 months & she's now a beautiful, smart toddler with an amazing vocabulary & no issues, as far as I know. She just wasn't ready to get moving until then.

I don't know if this helps you or not, but my son did not crawl until 10 months, not did he really try before then. All he wanted to do is stand while holding on to something. He HATED being on his tummy! If he was on his tummy and wanted to reach something, he would reach and roll side to side until eventually he got it, or he'd give up and cry. Then one day he just took off. He started walking at 13 months. He really studies concepts before he tries them. He wants to be sure in his mind he can do them before he even tries. Maybe your daughter is similar. Good luck to you. And know that some babies simply skip crawling!

Hey, F.! I think it's way too early to worry, but good for you for calling ECI. They will probably just give you some tips to encourage her motor development (couldn't we all use that?!). My baby girl did not really try to crawl...then one day she was all over the place. All I can say is enjoy having one fewer mobile kiddo while you can, ha!

My daughter started rolling over around three months or so from tummy to back because she hatted bing on her tummy due to torticollis. That she didnt roll from back to tummy until she was 9 months old. She didnt crawl until around 10 1/2 months. Before that she would just sit and i would put things out of reach and she would wiggle her booty with legs completely spread out in a sitting position until she got to the object.

We would work to put her on all fours for months until she got the balance and upper body strength to hold herself up. Once she got that down we would move one arm for her and then one leg and so on.

Now...she is a little speech delayed and physicaly delayed as well. She does have Speech Therapy once a week and PT as well once a week. Her prob. was caused by some nerve damage by the Torticollis which led to Sensory problems.

A child with Sensory problems has a hard time relating to the world around them and in turn causes delays.

We used ECI for speech but they just werent for us. We ended up using Therapedia which was FANTASTIC!!!! 3 - 4 months with ECI and no improvement....1 month with Therapedia and she was picking up new words and sounds. She now picks up a word a week we went from 5 words to now 16!

i know how hard this is on you and how you feel. I felt like a failure as a mom and asked myself what am i doing wrong! it wasnt me. Not every baby is the same and they develop on their own terms.

My husband never crawled as a child...he went straight to walking!

Dont worry about it so much...just dont hand her things when she cries for them make her work to get the object she wants. Put her in the crawling position and the object just within reach until she can get it.

Hope this helps.

Good luck...

Don't worry about it, kids have minds of there own. My daugther did not start to crawl until she was 11 months old and didn't really master crawling until she was 12 mths old. She did not start walking until she was 18 months old. I took her to specialist and everything having them look at her and they just told me she would do it when she was ready and one day she just took off.
