My daughter started rolling over around three months or so from tummy to back because she hatted bing on her tummy due to torticollis. That she didnt roll from back to tummy until she was 9 months old. She didnt crawl until around 10 1/2 months. Before that she would just sit and i would put things out of reach and she would wiggle her booty with legs completely spread out in a sitting position until she got to the object.
We would work to put her on all fours for months until she got the balance and upper body strength to hold herself up. Once she got that down we would move one arm for her and then one leg and so on.
Now...she is a little speech delayed and physicaly delayed as well. She does have Speech Therapy once a week and PT as well once a week. Her prob. was caused by some nerve damage by the Torticollis which led to Sensory problems.
A child with Sensory problems has a hard time relating to the world around them and in turn causes delays.
We used ECI for speech but they just werent for us. We ended up using Therapedia which was FANTASTIC!!!! 3 - 4 months with ECI and no improvement....1 month with Therapedia and she was picking up new words and sounds. She now picks up a word a week we went from 5 words to now 16!
i know how hard this is on you and how you feel. I felt like a failure as a mom and asked myself what am i doing wrong! it wasnt me. Not every baby is the same and they develop on their own terms.
My husband never crawled as a child...he went straight to walking!
Dont worry about it so much...just dont hand her things when she cries for them make her work to get the object she wants. Put her in the crawling position and the object just within reach until she can get it.
Hope this helps.
Good luck...
