I look forward to seeing your responses. My son is 5.5 and I'd like to get him something similar...I wonder if Fisher Price makes an ipod-like device.
My DD will be 5 in January and she loves music. She has some play lists of her own on my ipod touch and we have an extra speaker/dock thingy. I want to know if there is some type of inexpensive mp3 player out there that will work on an ihome. I really don't want it to have wifi. Just play music. I thought an ipod shuffle would work but it will only play through the head set not on the ihome speaker dock and I don't want that. Any ideas???
Hello ... I said I want it for a dock and speakers NOT a head set. Also I don't think $50 is too much money to spend on your child for a Christmas gift. Its all she will be getting. Anyway there is no such thing as the item I was hoping for so she will be getting something else and I will have to keep sharing my ipod with her.

In my opinion head phones for a 5 year old is asking for trouble. Too many young adults are having hearing loss lately.
I'm not an expert on this, but to the best of my knowledge only ipod type devices will work with an ihome. Maybe just me, but $50 (cost of shuffle) seems like a lot for a 5 year old.
If you can find something inexpensive it sounds like a nice gift. I like to down load stories/kids books to listen too for my kids. no idea about the technology you are asking about though, sorry.
