Alta Dena Milk Delivery

Hello! I'm so frustrated right now, because some Alta Dena guy came by my house when I was trying to leave with my toddler to go to the park, and he got me to agree to a free gallon of milk delivered by them. I got the milk, called and left a message saying I didn't want any more and I DIDN'T want their delivery service. I never heard anything else. This was like a month ago. Yesterday in the mail (the 15th) I got a bill for $4.75 for the milk, saying it's due on the 15th. ?!?!?! Just wondering if anyone else had this experience, and wondering what they are going to say when I call tomorrow morning. Obviously I'm not going to pay, and I am not really worried about them sending me to collections for $4, but it's just the principle of the thing! I'm never answering the door again! :) Any advice? Thanks!

What can I do next?

I had an issue with them as well. I ended up paying the bill and sent it certified with a cancellation letter. The owner of the franchise was worse than anything....I was concerned with collections and just chalked it up to my poor judgement in accepting their service in the first place. :(

I would go ahead and call the company and explain the confusion. Hopefully it's just a clerical error. We used to have Alta Dena delivery when my youngest was a toddler and loved the product and the owner, but the driver was a jerk and we ended up dropping the service because of him.The owner was bummed but really understanding.

So I'd try the honey route and go with the assumption that it was a misunderstanding, until proven otherwise!

Good luck!

It sounds dubious, as he probably thought you'd love the milk and continue with the delivery service. He was probably getting compensated through this gimmick...

I grew up across the street from an Alta Dena Dairy when I was a little girl, back when they still had cows in Ontario, CA. Then my mom also had it delivered for years. That was THE BEST milk ever....sure do miss it.

Call the office and ask about it. There may have been a stipulation that you had to sign up for a certain length of time for delivery.

I would call the office, tell them how you received the milk and that you thought it was free. I suggest that there was a misunderstanding because you were in a hurry and I would pay if they insist. It's possible that they will cancel the bill, tho. Especially if you word it as there being a possibility of a misunderstanding. Be courteous.
