Alternative to Whole Cow's Milk for Infant?

My son just turned one and I have been giving him whole milk for the calories and calcium. He has not had any problems thus far. However, I am very concerned with the value of cow's milk as far as chemicals, growth hormones, etc. Is there an alternative I can give him in which he would still recieve plenty of calcium and fat or should I just stop worrying and give him the cow's milk? I'm a worry wart. :/ Thanks!

What can I do next?

You can always get organic milk, it's usually double the cost per gallon, but some think it's worth it.

We use Braum's milk as well... organic is probably best if you can afford it. If it's just the cow's milk, in general, that you're worried about... then goat's milk is a lot easier to digest. It is supposed to be the closest to human milk. You usually have to go to health food stores to find it... and it's pretty pricey. I know there are some places that sell it fresh... not sure how far you'd have to drive for that, though.. lol.

Good luck!

Organic Valley milk is only about $5.69/ gal in Colleyville at Market Street. You can check its pricing at Whole Foods in Dallas, but that's what I'd reccommend. Good stuff & "pure" too.

I do soy milk and organic cow milk. If you buy soy, make sure to get the unsweeted one.

You know, worrying is human nature. But, I do know that I give my little girl Borden's Milk because it does NOT contain all the bad stuff (noted right on the label). And, there are many organic brands that are free from all the hormones and pesticides too. Hope that helps and will ease your mind. All us Moms understand the analyzing and double-check of anything and everything that affects our children. Many Blessings - L.

I like to give my kids Silk Soymilk plus Omega 3 and DHA. I didn't find cow's milk with those added nutrients. Also, it's one way to go green !
