Alternative Treatment Options to Reduce Allergic Reaction to Nuts

Hey Moms,

I've seen a lot of requests on suggestions for allergy treatments on various allergies. There have also been posts on NAET (Nambudripad's Allergy Elimination Techniques). I haven't really seen anyone's experiences with these treatments for nut allergies. My 4-yr. old is EXTREMELY allergic to all nuts. She has already had one very serious reaction to taking a bite (and spitting out) a pistachio. We have epi-pens everywhere. But, I'm just curious if there is a successful treatment that reduce the severity of her symptoms, we'd definitely look into it. Also, if you have used NAET before, was it covered by insurance? Unfortunately, from what I have researched and gotten from her doctors, you don't really "grow out of" a nut allergy like most other food allergies. Any information would be helpful and much appreciated! Thanks:)

What can I do next?

A friend of mine had a similar treatment done called AAT in Canada where he got rid of his gluten allergy. He went to Canada to have it done because it was cheaper. I don't know how well it works with those that go into anaphylactic shock, it may not be recommended. But I would definitely look into it further and I'm aware of several specialists in Dallas. I'm also checking into it for my husband's seasonal allergies. I doubt that insurance covers it because the system is set up to put you on drugs to treat symptoms, not cure them, but you could call them and see. Please let me know if you end up doing it, I would like to know the results.

Dr. Steve Homoky in Plano used to do NAET, but now uses AAT. He's at Coit & Spring Creek, ###-###-####. He's on vacation this week, but has another acupuncturist there to help his patients. Insurance doesn't cover the treatments, unless you have a Health Savings Account or other type of plan that reimburses you for health-related things. He specializes in working with kids, and no needles are used for the little ones. Don't know about the nut allergy stuff, either, but it fixed my lactose-intolerance and many other seasonal allergies. Going tomorrow as a matter of fact for my son who came home from camp stuffy as a teddy bear!

I do not have and answer to your question but I can reccommend Dr. C. R. Chung. He treated my food allergies and I would highly reccommend him. He was able to help me when others could not and he did use elimination techniques whether it was the Nambudripad treatment I do not know. I do know he and his staff are very good with children.

I don't have any experience with NAET, but I do have a 3 year old son with a peanut allergy. He had aniphylactic shock to eating peanut butter toast. We have epipens everywhere! I had similar questions at my son's 3yr check up. My pedi specializes in pediatric allergies and said that the elimination techniques are currenly only used on children with low allergic reactions. If the reaction is serious enough to have epipens, it is probably too dangerous and ineffective.
It is scary to have a child with peanut allergies- nuts can be in ANYTHING, and sometimes are chopped so finely they are so hard to see!

Good luck and God Bless!
