My name is Natalia, and I have 17 month old girl who is breast feed still,we not doing any vaccines tiil she is 2,but I am reading this book Dr Sears since yesteday, and I found this info for you from web......................wrote another mam,not me:"I just picked up a copy of Dr. Sears book called "The Vaccine Book" in whicy he gives an alternative vaccine schedule. Here is some information I found on his website that explains it:

Is it worth the trouble to spread a baby's vaccines out over more visits so less shots are given at a time?
Thursday, August 23, 2007

The main difference in my suggested alternative vaccine schedule is it spreads the infant vaccines out over the first few years of life, instead of bunching them all up in the first 18 months. It gives fewer vaccines at a time, gives the most important vaccines first, and slightly delays the less important vaccines. But ultimately the end result is the same - a fully vaccinated child. What are the benefits of my alternative schedule compared to the standard one?

By only giving two vaccines at a time (instead of as many as 6), I decrease the chance of chemical overload from grouping so many vaccines chemicals all together at once. This allows a baby's body to better detoxify the chemicals one or two at a time.
I give only 1 aluminum-containing vaccine at a time (instead of the recommended 4). Overloading on this metal can be particularly toxic to the brain (See Resources, page ___ of The Vaccine Book to view the research on this).
I give only one live-virus vaccine component at a time to allow the body's immune system to better handle the live viruses in these vaccines.
Giving fewer shots at a time may decrease the side effects, in my experience.
Giving fewer shots at a time also makes it easier to figure out which vaccine a child is reacting to if a severe reaction occurs.
Sure, vaccinating this way means more visits to the doctor's office, more gas money, more insurance co-pays and more time off work to take your baby in. BUT, some parents may decide it's worth the extra time, money and trouble.

For my first child, I just decided to only do 2 vaccines at a time. My ped. had me bring him in every 3 months to get the next set. There is a point where the boosters to the first vaccine will need to be given within a certain time frame from the first, and I did have one or two appointments where the ped. had to give 3 shots, 2 boosters, but only 1 new one. For my second child, I followed the regular vaccine schedule much closer. For her, I chose no more than 2 at a time for at least the first 6 months, but moved to only 1 new shot per visit later due to insurance issues. She did have one appointment where she got 4 shots, 3 boosters and 1 new. Honesty, it didn't matter if my child got 1 or 4 shots, it was always miserable... Lots of crying, a low fever and a whole day dealing with a cranky tot every time.

What bothers me the most about vaccines is the additives they put in them to increase the shelf life, and the fact that we, the american public, are the company's test market. I will not allow my children to receive any new vaccine. It's no surprise that the companies who produce the vaccines cannot find sufficient enough numbers of babies for their testing... Really, who would volunteer their baby for testing a new vaccine anyway? Well, we all do. The FDA approves a new vaccine and quickly makes it required with a testing population that does not accurately depict the whole population, no long term testing, and a prayer. My kid's ped. won't give new vaccines, but my requirements are more stict than hers... I require at least 10 years on the market, and have to be able to see the stats on it before I will allow my children to receive it. And, of course, I have to be comfortable with what I see in those stats.

I have done an alternate vaccine schedule, however I have needed to go to the health department to do it. It has saved us a lot of money, but I did need to sign something stating that this was my preference of vaccinating my children. They weren't in agreement but did it as I reminded them that they do not have the right to dictate how I choose to vaccinate my child. I do no more than 2 at a time and wait until they are 12mo. old to start them. It takes time, but I feel it is worth it. Do you mind me asking who your doc is because mine was so frustrated by the way I wanted to do things. I have yet to find one that is open to this.

Hello -

We follow the Dr. Sears alternative vac. schedule. It has worked well for us so far. The doctor wasn't exactly happy with it but she's doing it.

I recommend his (Dr. Sears) Vac. book which explains a lot about the shots and the schedule.

I split the mmr shot up to one a month. insurance didn't like it though. I also have a child with Aspbergers and strongly believe the shots were one of the triggers. Please don't get the flu shot I have watched how sick it makes the kids they don't get the flu but they usually have colds for several months. It also has mercury in it.

We started our son's vaccines later and just did one vaccine at a time - spread about 4 - 6 - 8 months a part. We waited on his MMR until last and we're glad we did - he was nearly 4 years old. But he had a reaction to that one and we're so thankful that we waited and that we knew what was causing his reaction - it happened a week after his vaccine was given. Follow your gut as to what you think your child can handle and when the best timing is. People, including the docs and nurses, may not understand, but you know your child best.

I appreciate you asking this. I've been wondering what schedule we would do too. I have an 18 mth old that has had no shots. We are waiting until she is at least 3 if not 4 to start the shots and figured that we can just get 1-2 a month or 2. I've been told that you don't even need to see the doctor when you do that and only have the shot to pay for since the nurse is giving it. The doctor just sees the child for the normal check ups. I'm scared and don't want to do it at all, but for me, I don't think that I can say the things that need to be said for the waivers.

My parents waited until I was 5 and about to be kicked out of kindergarten before starting my shots and kept them at 1-2 per month. It worked fine for me (though I do remember the shots and being afraid...that's my only concern). I think that it was a great decision on their part.

It's a good thing that your doctor supports you. Make sure that your insurance will too. My doctor told me that the HMOs require you to get the shots on the normal schedule, but PPOs are more lienent.

I was so happy that you asked this question! I am 4 months pregnant and have been wondering about the same issue. I have a 4 year old son with autism and feel that the vaccines he had may (or may not) have had something to do with the onset of his autism, which happened following 4 shots in one day in addition to a flu shot on the same day.
I dont want to take any risks with my next baby. I still want to vaccinate, but on a safer schedule and even without some of the unessesary shots, like the chicken pox one for example. I am going to get the Dr. Sears vaccination book like the two other mothers reccomended and I an anxious to hear what other responses you get.
Good Luck! A.

What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Children's Vaccinations by Stephanie Cave, M.D., F.A.A.f.P. is a great resource. She has a recommended vaccination schedule towards the end of the book that helped me figure out what to get when. Her info on how to safely group shots is great.

I have a 6 month old. He gets his Hib, Polio, and Pneumococcal shots together, and then I come back a month later to get the DTaP. I do get the rotavirus oral vaccine-no shot. I do not do a flu shot. I am not sure what I will do about MMR yet. I am pretty sure I am going to wait until he is going into school for the chicken pox, because he in not in day care.

Good luck!

Mother of 3. Youngest is now 27..... He was not vacinated at the pace the "recommended" was instructed of me. I took him to a free clinic and when ever he was not showing signs of a cold or fever I had vaccines done. I believe he was 4 when his final shots were given. He then started with the "recommended" school vaccines, I don't remember ever having more than 2 at a time. He is a healthy 27 year oldThat I am very proud of. I do not believe there is any proven facts stating when and how many a child needs to have at a time. It is a guideline not the rule. Good luck with your decision and 4 at once is a lot! That's exactly what we did with our 16 month old. Our pediatrician gave her only 2 shots at each check-up and they were ok with it too. With all that is going on with autism these days, we felt more comfortable with "spacing out" the shots than to just give her 4 or more at once. Peace of mind you could say.

check wikipedia for vaccine schedule. The british schedule is listed and it is much more lax than ours is.

And the CDC website states that all thimerisol (mercury) has been removed from all vaccines due to public outcry for several years now. So, no worries there.

Others have given great advice to the alternative schedule, so I won't add to it further. I will, however, tell you this. A close friend of mine does the following when time for her children to be vaccinated. In addition to splitting them up and spreading them out, she splits the MMR--has them done individually. Also, she requests the lot number and manufacturer in advance and researches that lot--I'm not certain how she does this, but I'd bet starting with the manufacturer's website would be a start. She researches the numbers and kinds of reactions to that lot and then decides whether to let her children have the vaccine from that lot.

I have two girls, and while I waited just a LITTLE with the first one, I am much more aware and on it with the second. (she is not fully immunized yet at 2+years old...and I don't care - she's getting them slowly!)

Here's my plan for a 3rd (assuming we are blessed enough to have a third)....

In the Hospital:
-ORAL vitamin K
-decline Hep B
-eye gunk go ahead (I worry about it, but it's much more benign than it used to be, and it's non invasive as well)

Decline all together:
-Hep A
-Hep B (will consider for a teenager - college age child)
-Rotovirus
-HPV (will consider for a teenager - college age child)
-Flu (these do NOT contain mercury in the under 4 dosages, but above that they DO - adult versions as well....I don't even get them myself since I plan to be pregnant one more time!)

All the rest I have given on a delayed schedule, which my Dr. was open to, but begrudingly did. I limited it to 2 vaxs per visit, without any additional visits - except she did get 2 at her 9 month old visit whereas that's usually a freebie.

I kind of left it up to the Dr. which ones to give when though - and now that I know about that Dr. SEars book, I'll be much more informed for the next one - I'll have a detailed plan!

Let's also not forget that aside from the mercury there are TONS of other additivies (like aluminum) that can cause damage - we really do NOT know what combo is causing this autism correlation!

I hv fully vaxed my son (3), but wonder if his eczema is related to it (it 1st showed at one month, right after a series of shots). I'm slowly giving one vax at a time w/ DD (9.5 mos), started w/ DTaP. That's done, now doing Polio. My homeopath says you can treat a lot of the childhood illnessses homeopathically (chicken pox, measules, mumps and rubella, pertussis (whooping cough)), and there's no serious threat to their health if you let them get sick w/ these illnesses (just have to be careful and make sure you get treatment for them if needed). But stuff like Polio, Diptheria, Tentanus, you can ask that all of these be given in just single vax instead of multi-vax in one shot (e.g. just tetanus, w/o the diptheria and pertussis). Then you know which one causes a reaction, if one occurs.

also, one mom said something about all the thimerisol being out of all the vaccines -- not true. have to be careful! See this website....
