Alternatives to Steroid Creams for My Daughter Who Has Eczema

My daughter was 6 weeks old when she was diagnosed with eczema. She was miserable, and at three months learned to scratch herself and fell asleep happy for the first time. I cried because she was not happy. She has been on and off steroid creams for seven years. I nursed her for a year and she was always sensitive to milk and I could tell peanut butter. When I ate peanut butter she would get red and itchy. So I was not surprised when the did an allergy test and it said that she was allergic to peanuts. She is also allergic to dust mites. Eczema is usually worse for most people in the winter, but Abby is worse in the summer. She has damage on her skin and kids make fun of her. We have tried so many things and we have so many memories of her screaming and crying from the pain and burning. She is alway's bleeding and has been to a dermatologist and Allergist her whole life. She has had out breaks of MRSA because she has so many open wounds. Does anyone have any other suggestions on how to help her. She is so beautiful, but some can not see that. Kids call her dry skin girl. I would love to see her not in pain. Any advice would be a relief. Thank you!

My 5 month old baby has ezcema too! I recently took him to the dermatologist and he gave him a prepared cream with antibiotic in it and a lotion called ELTA LITE. That lotion soften his skin and made it less dry and looks great. Is made for sensitive skin. You can get it online.
Hope she gets better I know how you feel.

Is she taking anything daily for the allergies? I am just wondering if a daily treatment of Claritin may improve her condition a little. My daughter, Abby, had it bad on her face and we had to do Hydrocortisone cream to finally clear it. I liked the Eucerin cream in the jug, and the Aquaphor after the bath. Have you found anything that helps ease it as a daily moisturizer?

Good luck, my dermatologist said they should "grow" out of it. Abby is 3 and only flares now in winter.

One of the important things that you need is that green non-toxic products. Start with laundry soap, and lotion from Melaleuca.

Melaleuca been in business since 1985, non-toxic products. From laundry, household cleaners, vitamins, personal care items, kids care and vitamin line, bath and body line, organic food line, weight loss and energy line.

I can get you the information that you need. You will be suprised how much healthier you and your family will be.

My daughter uses Renew lotion (Melaleuca)on my grandson who has Eczema. He would cry and ask not to have lotion put on even from the doctor, now with the Renew lotion he likes to have lotion put him now.

I'm so sorry to hear all that your little girl has been through. It's really hard as a parent to see our children suffer in any way. She has suffered both physically and mentally. It must be very painful for you. I'm sorry that I can't offer any advice on her medical condition, but I will say one thing. I have learned over the years that doctors don't always have the answers. I don't know your full situation, but if you are not getting satisfactory treatment from your doctor or dermatologist, I'd be on the hunt for a new doctor (maybe several) until I find someone who DOES know what to do. There has to be something out there that can help. We'll pray for Abby over here that God put the right person in your life to help and heal her.

Blessings,
K.

My daughter has eczema too, its not as bad as your daughters but it used to bother her too. We tried all the prescription creams and steroids too. They never worked. What has worked for us is to take showers instead baths with only white dove soap. Then to pat her dry instead of rub and slather her body with vaseline. It keeps the skin moist. It has helped her stay under control. I hope it helps.

I only have a mild case, but my mom has had a very extreme case her entire life. My son also has a mild case, but it flares up during certain points of the year. My mom has learned that you have to pay attention to some basic daily things... What type of soap do you use? The best are Dove or Oil of Olay. Do not use Dial or Ivory. They will dry out the skin and make it flake and more irritated. Anything with shea butter (as long as she doesn't have an allergy) is also a great comfort. For example, Soft soap hand soap (with shea butter) near the sinks to wash your hands or Gold Bond lotion with Shea Butter for small dry irritated spots help a lot. Also, stick with unscented laundry soaps if at all possible, or at least one kind. If you buy what's on sale, don't do it. It could be irritating her. We have always stuck with original scent Tide and have always had good luck. Hope this helps a little...

I am a Mary Kay consultant who has a girlfriend who uses our satin hand extra emollient night cream on her son's eczema which is on his elbows and hands. She says she uses in the day time and washes it off with the satin hands scrub but at night after his shower she puts it on him and let is work its magic through the night. She said it only takes about two days for it to clear up and than she just keeps an eye on it for other flair ups.
I totally feel for your daughter because I have had to use that steroid cream for a rash and I stopped using after the first to tries because of the burning. Shame on the kid for teasing her. I just hope what every you choose gives her relief from all of the issues, unkind kids included.

Have you considered chiropractic care? It may help the whole body heal itself. Our son goes to one and goes to a pediatric chiro. PM me if you want the name.. I have very few allergies (I was diagnosed with asthma 4 years ago) since going to the chiro. Also, is it possible that she is allergic to milk as well and getting outbreaks because of that. I stopped having a lot of my allergy symptoms when I cut out most dairy even though it didn't show on an allergy test.

I had eczema as a child, but it was only in the winter and not terribly visible.

I'm so sorry to hear about her pain.. how hard.
