Ok ladies, I'm sorry if I'm being a little personal but I have to ask someone. It seems as tho I'm allergic to condoms. Of course not using them isn't an option for me, but I really need to know what else to do. Does anyone else out there have this problem, or do you know anyone who does? I have an appt with my GYN, but its not for another week YIKES!! Help!! Thanx guys.

What can I do next?

I'm allergic to the spermicide stuff too. I always get a yeast infection or some other infection if the wrong kind is used. It is irritating.

You may be allergic to latex, but I think you'd know about that - that is a SERVERE allergy. It's more likely a reaction to the spermicide (sp). I am unable to use hormonal BC, and my husband and I had this experience....

Assuming you are in a committed monogamous relationship, you may want to try the "natural" ones. There are probably various options on the market now.

Good luck.

I have to use the non-latex ones now... Trojan has one out that I like... Skyn.

It could also be the spermicide. But I know if I use regular Trojan it hurts a lot, but I don't have any other sensitivities to latex, so I don't know why. I've used the lubricated without spermicide and they still bother me. The Skyn's are great, I really like them. Also, I've used non-lubricated latex in the past and found they irritated me less, but it's only recently that it really bothers me. In the past I never had any issues.

You may be allergic to latex or, if you're using lubricated condoms, ypu may be allergic to nonoxyl 9. I am. I have constant itching and irritation and yeast infections if I use anything involving nonoxyl 9!

I discovered in college that I had issues with condoms. I was getting recurring yeast infections and got some relief when I switched from the one's with spermicidal lubricant to the plain lubricant one's. Soon, those were bothering me, so I tried the non-latex ones. Those bothered me too after a while. I (and my Dr.) think the combination of friction, even with lubrication, and condoms just irritate my vaginal tissues too much. Talk to your doctor about this and alternative birth control and experiment with different kinds/brands on your own. Good luck!

There's a variety of synthetic materials used to make condoms since latex is a common allergy. There are also female condoms, the pill, and other forms of contraception available.

I only know this stuff because I'm with teenagers most of the day.

You are not the only one! I had to do a trial and error before I found the best one. Turns out that Lifestyles even with spermicide were better for me. Best of luck.

I'm allergic to so many things (fruit, tree nuts, pollen) and condoms! I knew this since high school, never saw a doctor for it, tried lubricated, non lubricated and it all left me with a dull ache down there for a day. Definitely try to see a dermatologist for it. I'm married now so I don't have any issues anymore but if you have to wear them, maybe try a natural lubricant (try to google it?) and a non lubricated condom?

I am too. I am allergic to latex in general. Though I am on birth control, the rare few times I've had use them (while taking antibiotics) I use Trojan Supra. I believe that's what they are called. They aren't latex, they are polyurenthane. Good luck!
