In sorting through toy bins and the basement I have accumulated a large garbage bag full of small toys collected from various fast food restaurants over the years. I will try a "free" posting on Craig's List, but does anyone know of a group or organization that might want these? I hate to just throw all of that plastic in a landfill. In the past when I've had a few here and there I've put them in the "donate" bag, but this is an unusually large quantity of them.
Thanks for the suggestions. I struck out with two preschools and the local women's shelter, but just dropped them off at Sharing and Caring Hands in Minneapolis yesterday. I bagged up two bags of clothes for them too to give them something a little more useful and to make it worth my drive downtown. I even got to have a nice lunch with my husband!

Any homeless shelter or women's shelter would be happy to take them. The children there often have NO toys, or have had to leave behind whatever toys they did have. Sharing & Caring Hands in Mpls comes to mind.
My Moms Club has been collecting them and sending them to a soldier we adopted in Iraq. They give them out to the children they meet. They also pass them out at medical clinics. Most of these children have no toys so even the sight of a simple happy meal toy truly brings joy.
I clear out our "junk toy" drawer nearly every month to weed out the stuff my 2 preschoolers don't play with any more.

you could split them up and check with you elem school they sometime use them for insentives. Mary's place or Caring and sharing hands will hand them out also to kids that are at there shelter as well as clothing of all kinds, they take anything.
Not that this helps you today, but I know someone who gave them out on Halloween instead of candy :) You could save them for some sort of other occasion when giving little gifts is appropriate.

Contact a Preschool or Elementry school and see if they want them for "prizes" for school carnivals or parties
I know my children's preschool is always looking for them to use in their treasure chest for good behavior prizes. I'll bet a preschool or daycare in your area would love them.

Our elementary school gives those away as Bingo prizes at the carnival, fun-fest, etc. Does your elementary school have one of these coming up?

If you or someone you know plans to have a garage sale this spring or summer put them in a box labeled free. People will go nuts for them. Thats what I did.
