Another Calorie Count Question (Aka a Boring Question :) )

Sorry, I know I just asked another calorie count question recently but this one is different. I decided to count calories vs. counting points (that was my first question in this series, lol). So far, so good...so much easier than counting points :) I've seen a 2lb drop in 2 days. I understand that my weight can go up/down by a couple of pounds on any given day w/out my watching calories so it could be unrelated to my calorie counting. I'm sure it's just water weight. So I'm a newbie to this whole calorie counting thing...what I've heard is that you take your weight and multiply it by 10 & that's how many calories you should consume per day. Sounds easy enough. Well, now that I've lost 2lbs do I take that weight and multiply it by 10? If not, when do I readjustment my calories?

Thank you!!!!

What can I do next?

I'm naturally thin, but what I always heard was that you take your target weight and multiply it by 10. In other words, if your goal weight is 120, you would consume 1200 calories a day.

However, there are lots of bad calories. You don't want to live on 1200 calories of diet soda per day, for example.

I'm small. I consume more calories each day than I weigh according to the above formula, but I also run my legs off every single day. I am a very active person.

Choosing right calories from proteins, fruits and vegetables and getting plenty of exercise is healthy for anyone, regardless of a "goal" weight.

I know plenty of people who have done Weight Watcher's and it seems to work for them, but I can't wrap my head around the points thing. I know more people who got burnt out on going that route.

What works is different for everyone.
If you are seriously in need of losing weight or changing your eating habits, the best thing to do is make an appointment with a nutritionist who take all of your health into consideration.

Just my opinion.
Best wishes.

In theory yes, but wait until you are down by 5 lbs consistently (not daily fluctuations) and make it a permanent adjustment that stays in place until your next 5 lbs are lost. No don't adjust your calories daily by 10 and 20 cals thats too legalistic and no one can even be that accurate with counting anyways. 50 calorie increments, thats what I would do (and have done).

go to myfitnessplan.com and fill it out it will tell you how much to eat and you etll it everything you are eatting. if you are out at a restraunt you can tell it "mcdonalds medium fry " and it will tell you the calories in it. mine told me that i shouldnt be below a certain amount of calories and what i needed to stay under. then you tell it how much you've lost and it tells you your new numbers to stay between. i lost 20 my first month or so. havent lost much sense but i havent gained it back either. it's a nice plan though and if you have a scanner on your phone you can scan in the bar codes of the foods you eat and it will search the food faster and be more accurate.

It is ALSO related to have much activity you have a day/week... If your activity is high, then you want more calories, if it is low, then less calories. Have you tried something like this?

I hadn't heard that method. There should be free tools online that help you calculate your "burn rate" (calories in = calories out). They will ask your height, weight, age and activity level.

Once you know your burn rate you can determine how quickly you want to lose weight.

To lose 1 pound you need to burn 3500 calories. So if you want to lose 1 pound per week - 3500 calories/7 days = burn 500 calories per day. So, eat 500 calories less than your burn rate per day.

My burn rate is calculated to be around 2000 calories daily. To lose a pound per week, I only eat 1500 calories daily. If I wanted to lose 2 pounds per week, I could eat only 1000 calories daily, but personally I can't do that, so 1500 works for me. If I exercise, I can eat a few more calories per day.

BTW, I use the MyFitnessPal app and highly recommend it. It's free if you have a mobile device. Best of luck!
