I have did Mary Kay and it did not work out, it was about nine years ago, I am 33 now. I was thinking one "I was younger" and two I did not loooove the product and three I am not a big sales person, especially with something I don't absoulutely love. Well, I have an opportunity to get into a business selling designer jeans for a lot less than they sell at retail shops. I love jeans, I am a SAHM, so my wardrobe is mostly jeans already. How do all you ladies feel about this? The only way you can get these jeans is attend a party and you buy and take them home that day. I think it is an awesome concept and think it could really take off. What is everyone's opinion?
The thing about this jean concept is you do not have to do some kind of big presentation to sell them. You set them out on the table and the woman come! What woman does not like jeans? I buy atleast three pairs per year already.
I would love to have a pair of jeans fit me right.
I don't know if I would go to a party to buy a pair of jeans though.
You will have to do a lot of selling for this one.
For starters, I am the type that does not attend parties where I receive an invitation (invoice) to show up and buy something I don't want or need. I am not interested in the sales presentations, someone trying to convince me to have my own party for them, etc.
1. Why would I come to a party where I am obligated to buy a pair of designer jeans when I can buy designer jeans from my favorite retailer?
2. What brands of jeans are you selling? Name brand from places like Macy's, Neimans, Anthropoligie, Nordstrom, DIllards, etc
3. Why are they discounted? Lower grade denim, knock-offs, leftovers from retailers of products they can't get rid of, etc There is a reason they are discounted... and not at a great deal because you plus whomever recruits you gets a cut of the profit!
4. How much inventory to you have to carry to be able to process orders THAT DAY at the party?
If you are going to be carrying inventory, you will be making some type of investment and then you will have to sell, sell, sell to get rid of your inventory. Nothing is free!!
I don't know about your area plus I see red flags all over this. How many people are you going to have to convince to have a party and not double up on the same people at the parties. You'll need a good base of people willing to host this type of parties, sometimes more than once. This type of customer is not a "repeat" type customer. How many pairs of jeans does a person truly buy each year?
I might, just might, buy 1 pair a year. When I do, it is a top notch quality pair and they usually last 10 +yrs. I bought a new designer pair this season at $165 to replace my $125 Guess jeans that were 11 yrs old and still fit great, only replaced due to me wearing them out. I still wear the worn out Guess when cleaning house, etc, just not in public!
I don't see this type of thing going over well in my neighborhood at all.

I don't like in home parties...I actually despise them. I know that is a strong word...but I am being honest. I dread getting the little cards constantly in the mail inviting me to parties in the evenings. You feel an obligation to support your friend's in home business and it takes up a whole evening...time is precious. But, I have become very good at saying, "No, I can't attend but I will let you know if I am interested in anything in the future."
I do like the "open house" type party so you can go anytime within a longer time frame. I am more likely to attend an "open house" on a Saturday where I can drop in amid our family's scheduled activities.
Jeans is something I have never heard of a party for. Interesting. I don't know if I would want to try on jeans at a party...have everyone looking at me...or having to ask to try on a bigger size in front of people I don't really know. Ugh...
Sooo, that is just my opinion. And, a truly honest one just off the top of my head. I think it is creative..and it is great you are looking to do something from home.

I don't like home parties to begin with. Add to that, that people I may or may not know possibly seeing my size, having to fit into them, hoping they fit, feeling awkward if they are too expensive or don't fit right, etc. etc. I like being able to go to a store, or multiple stores & finding the perfect pair, and not being limited.
I think you have to like selling & promoting & marketing to really flourish in that type of business set up.
Nah...not something I would be interested in.
Just remember this "if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is", right?
And how in the heck would you schlepp all of that inventory (all styles in all sizes) from party to party? Sounds cumbersome.
A friend of mine works for I'm guessing the exact company you are talking about. She does ok. She is able to make a bit of extra money, but not much.
I did pampered chef for about a year and I made quite a bit from it. I stopped becuase I ran out of time to do the parties. I think once the kdis are in school I will start it up again. I mostly loved all the free products! :)
I know a few folks that do this. I personally am not a home party type of girl. I hate them honestly. I know some folks love them. In my opinion if you didn't do well with Mary Kay, don't do the jeans thing. Here's why......when you sell something you really want it to be a consumable product so when folks run out they call you for more. With jeans or jewelry, they are 98% more likely to just go to the store and buy them when needed. You will only be as good as your last sale so to speak. If you don't like sales................
I tried Mary Kay and a couple others like that and never made any significant money until I entered the wonderful world of franchising. I partnered with the big chain stores and sell folks everything they are already buying. I personally am just not a sales person.
On the other hand if there's not a huge start up cost.....you have nothing to lose. Try it. I think most of the time, the only risk is not trying. You don't know if you will be successful doing it until you have tried it.

If you love doing parties, then I say go for it. I've done sales like Avon etc. but didn't really love it. I liked it but not love it. Now I'm doing something and I LOVE THEIR PRODUCTS and I LOVE their compensation plan but I don't like the sales part because I have to explain the product and company to everyone. Like with Avon, it sells itself. With this company, I've gotten a check every month for 4 1/2 years because I did tell people and I keep thinking that if I just went for it, I could make money without "selling" since this is a company where people just order from the company once I introduce them to the company. But I'm not into doing presentations and contacting people and trying to convince them that this is worth it (even though I totally think it is). So, what I'm saying is, if you love the products and love how they sell or present the company and products, then go for it! I think you can't go wrong with jeans that are cheaper. Good luck to you!!
G....I think this is great. You sound like you have the right attitude and drive to pull this off. It is what you make it. Wouldn't it be fun to have your friends get all dolled up in the jeans and have a fashion show. Nothing sells better than self image. It's also a good thing to have another opinion. I probably wouldn't go, I really do not like home parties and avoid them like teh plague. Most of my friends who do Scentsy really love it though. The things with Scentsy, is candle tarts melt out and people come back for reorders, and the price is fairly cheap. So, sellers are usually able to sell more, sell add on items, and sell to repeat customers. I think with certain products like jeans/jewelry/tupperware and such, you don't always have those same benefits. No, I don't sell Scentsy, just telling you from what I know!
