My little nephew who will be 2 in December starting walking with a limp 2 weeks ago. They have taken him to the doctor. He told them that he thought it was a virus effecting him and it need to run it's course...They took him back for xrays and blood work - that turned out normal and the doctor told them he still thought it was a virus...My brother (the daddy) is finding it hard to wait and hard to believe the virus is still in his system..When my little cousin wakes up in the morning the condition is at it's worse....He is stiff and isn't as mobile...getting a bit better during the day but not losing the limp. Has anyone gone through this? Provide any insight? Make any recommendations. We are in tears and at a loss on what to do next..Thanks!!

What can I do next?

My hubby is a nurse and he said you should take him to Children's Hospital in Dallas. Try to find a great specialist there. If you have to, maybe even go via the ER on a weekend and tell them it got worse and you couldn't wait until Monday. Children's has a ton of specialists that should be able to really look at the problem objectively. It could be a virus, but there are many other things that could mimic this as well. let us know how it goes!

I don't know who your doctor is, but I suggest you find out if you can get an appointment at Scottish Rite. They do not charge for things like this. They are a charity based organization but are highly specialized in bone and motor skills defects. He needs to have a bone scan at least.

I would urge you to take him to a pediatric ortho. My daughter was about two when she also started talking with a limp and over a coarse of few days, could not walk. We were also told it was a virus and she would get better. I couldn't wait, We took her to a ped. ortho. To find out she had an infection in her joints, which is not very common but effects kids around two -three years of age. She ended up in the hospital with iv antibotic. It can be very serious. My daughter is doing great. but i hate to think what would have happened if we had waited. I would get him checked out to be on the safe side. Good luck.

If you don't trust you doctor, get a new one... If you do trust the doctor, follow his/her advise, but ask questions and get answers you can live with. My daughter went through a very similar thing a few years ago. We thought it was mono (her teacher had it) but she tested negative. Our doctor also tested her for Leukemia (very scary!) but she was negative for that, too. After a month of missing school and being unable to walk, it suddenly went away. Nobody could ever explain it, but four years later she's just fine.

TI had to update this because I was wondering if you had discovered your little boy's issue yet? I hope he is doing well. I was pondering him the other day (sometimes certain stories just stick with a person), and my thought was juvenile arthritis. Any progress on his diagnosis?

Im the father of this child, if anyone has any help please let me know. Again, we have had blood test, x-rays, he seems to grab his hip area and thigh area when he is bothered by it. He takes motrin in the morning to help the pain. The limp is still there, he seems very happy but has a limp and grabs his thigh area. We are going to take him to a specialist on Tuesday. Its very hard to see him limping around-please respond if any thing like this has happend to you or someone you may have known. thank you.
