Mine was this way at 2 months too -- especially during the last half of the night. Having him in my room in a bassinet helped me get through this because it would take less time to feed him and get him back to sleep.
hello moms.My 2,5 old son wakes up every single hour or two at nights and doesn't sleep more than 3-4 hours in all during the day. His weight is normal, even more.I breastfeed him every 2 hours during the day and every 3-4 hours during the night. The only problem is hi doesn't sleep well. please, help!!!
Thaks to everyone for responding. I got some books, and I'm going to buy a Kiddopotamus swaddler(with velcro) may be that one will work better, than the regular one. It is a good idea to feed him one more time before I go to sleep. You've already helped me, just making me feel I'm not alone . Thank you all again - Ellen

Hi there. A 2.5 month old is too young to sleep through the night, but I can certainly understand that every 1-2 hours is a lot. Do you know when he is waking due to hunger? Does he wake every time crying? If he is not crying let him fuss for a while, he might just go back to sleep!
Does he go to sleep on his own at bedtime and during naps?
He is also too young to let him cry it out, so I would try another avenue of sleep training. I used The Baby Whisperer Solves All Your Problems (you'll see some other moms are here used that book too instead of Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child, as the BW Book is FAR less harsh).
It helped tremendously in getting my baby to sleep without letting her cry it out on her own.
The BW also has a web-site with chat rooms and boards for help on sleep and more: www.thebabywhisperer.com
Good luck!
At that age I would assume he is going through a growth spurt and is completely normal. I dont think you should expect him to sleep through the night at that age. They are developing at such a rate that their bodies need to wake frequently to nurse. At six months thats when I would start having him sleep through the night but not before that.
That's normal. A 2.5 month old is not developmentally SUPPOSED to sleep through the night. It's dangerous (SIDS) and can lead to failure to thrive as well.
Continue to breastfeed. Every 3-4 hours at that young age is really actually incredible.
Babies don't usually sleep through the night at 2.5 months not even 5 months! Plus you want the poor thing to sleep through the night and most of the day? They are awake some you know and need to wake so they can eat/diaper changes, attention! I suggest.............
Buy the book Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child by Marc Weisbluth, MD or ask your pedi my sons pedi was very helpful regarding sleep issues for infants. It really comes down to CIO. (Cry It Out)
The only thing that would make my now 4 month old sleep more than an hour was swaddling him. He kicked out of regular blanket swaddles very easily, so I put him in a Kiddopotamus swaddler (the kind with velcro), and he began to sleep longer and longer (as long as 5 hours). Now he sleeps in his crib for 7-9 hours at night before waking to feed. I breastfeed, also, and he just turned 4 months. Good luck!
I agree with what everyone has said. Your son is too young to be sleeping through the night & sleeping 3-4 hours during the day is normal. Babies at this age need to be nursed or have a bottle every few hours. It is challenging, but it is completely normal. Is there any way to have your partner give your son a bottle during one of the night time feeds? The Baby Whisperer is a great resource.
My son did the same thing--he's 5 months old now and just in the past few days has been only waking once (rather than twice) at night to eat. He's just so hungry! The pediatrician suggested I try to make him go longer between meals during the day so he would eat more at one time. That way, he would be REALLY full upon going to bed at night, and accustomed to waiting longer in between meals. I also wake him now before I go to sleep (at 9:15 or 9:30) and feed him one more time. Then he sleeps til about 3, eats, then goes to sleep again until 6:00 or so.
Good luck--let us know what happens!
