I have a 7 week old little boy and he is developing tiny little bumps on his cheeks and forehead that look like pimples. They seem to be getting worse everyday and are quite ulgy. Does anyone know what causes this and what I might be able to do to get rid of them?

What can I do next?

Hello A.,
Are you breastfeeding? If so it may be because of that. My son had the same thing and it will go away! Dont worry! good luck !

My son had these. If you are breastfeeding they can be worse. It is simple baby acne from the rush of hormones during birth and breastfeeding. They will go away. Do not pop them. Oddly, everyone over looks them and just sees the beauty of the baby. My aunt even told me I produced the most beautiful children she has ever seen. Didn't mention the huge bumps on his face. We would dab a little alcohol on a q-tip and put it on the really bad spots. It went away after a few weeks.

A., don't worry! It sounds like regular infant acne. It will go away on its own. Some babies get it worse than others. Unfortunately, some of the worse cases don't look real cute, and it's a real bummer when you want to have a famiy photo taken. Maybe choose a photo place that can touch up the photos this season :-)

It can last several weeks if I remember correctly.
I don't think there's any treatment for it. Just regular skin care stuff -- no harsh cleansers (use a gentle laundry detergent, and maybe keep soap off his face -- just a warm water rinse most of the time), keep a bib on him and a burp cloth handy so drool and wetness doesn't sit on his skin too long. As with most newborn issues (sensitive skin, erratic routines, lack of sleep, etc...), the only thing needed for it to get "better" is time.

my so had it pretty bad too.... doc said to wash once a day with betodyne (sp?) -- it's that blood looking cleanser they use before surgery... I just put a little on a cotton ball... rubbed his forehead and cheeks then wiped it with a clean washcloth and it cleared up quickly.

I think it maybe baby acne. It will go away. I would make sure you keep his face washed...especially after you feed him and maybe put Eucerin lotion on it if it feels dry. Don't pick at it...it makes it worse. My son had the same thing...it goes away in a couple of weeks.

Mix Eucerin with a little vaseline and rub all over baby from head to toe twice a day (morning/night). It's probably just infant acne. Good luck!

Your baby probably has baby acne. It is caused by hormones. It will go away in a week or two, but in the meanwhile you can give aveeno baths to soothe him.

My 11 year old had something similar and our Dr. said it was a staph infection which can be very serious but if caught early, treated at home with antibiotics.

When you are pregnant your body is pumped up with hormones. You pass these on to your baby. This results in the newborn acne that many babies get, as well as the swollen genitalia, etc.. Don't try to pop them or scrub them. They will clear up as the hormones work their way out of the baby's body. Just keep the baby clean and use some of the skin treatments some of the other people have suggested. A lot of people I know swear by Aquaphor (spelling?). Of course, the baby should be going for his two month check up soon, so you should be able to discuss this with his pediatrician.

That is quite normal which is baby acne. Do not try to scrub them off, they will go away on their own.
It's from the oils of their skin.

Thanks and hope this helps.

my son had those recently. The doctor said it was dry skin. I also realised that I changed products. I switched back to Arbonne (which i am a consultant for) and they have cleared up. It also cleared up his craddle cap on his head when he was really small (13 months now). let me know if you want to try it.

It sounds like you have received many good responses that explain the situation. I don't know about rubbing ointments on his facem though. I think that the best thing is always to just be natural- gentle cleansing with warm water and if skin isn't too dry washing his face with a soft cloth and johnson's baby wash at bath times. Other than that just making sure after feeding his sweet little cheeks are clean. Like everyone has said, it will go away in a few weeks. If persistent and you are concerned, ask the pediatrician at your next visit.

Cheers!

I found this on a website for you and don't worry my lil one had it to when she was younger:
Do not let the face of your baby remain unclean. Take care to thoroughly remove any food particle, including milk, from the face. Baby skin is far softer than we think it to be. Even the innocuous food particles can cause much harm to them.

Harsh detergents should not be used while washing the clothes of the baby. Normal detergents contain many potent chemicals which can cause irritation to the skin. There is another significant thing to remember. You should never rub baby acne. In case of adults, scrubbing off is considered to be a solution sometimes. In the case of baby acne, this is a strict no-no.

Patience is the key in treating baby acne. It lasts for an average of two weeks, or in some cases three weeks at the most. After this, baby acne automatically vanishes. No adult medication should be administered to the baby. There is no medication which can be used to treat baby acne effectively. In this regard, the preventive measures are always better.

Overall cleanliness is the most important aspect in the process of baby acne treatment. However, there are times when even utmost cleanliness does not serve the purpose. If the baby acne refuses to go away even after long efforts, and persists beyond two to three weeks, it's time to consult the doctors. Hence, do not hesitate in availing medical help if you can not solve the problem by yourself.

Some times when you kiss you baby too much in the face they get those little kissing bumps. Try that.
