Any Ideas Where My Teenagers Can Safely Advertise Looking for Odd Jobs?

My 15 year old son is looking for work in the Allen, Lucas, Fairview area. He is wonderful at packing moving vans if anyone is looking for a helper with a move, he mows lawns, can use a brush mower, would be a good assistant for cleaning out garages. If someone has a business and needs to cover vacations for shipping and receiving, clean-up or other teen-appropriate work, he's perfect.

We're kind of new to the area and don't have a good personal network, yet. Does anyone have any ideas where we might be able to safely post his availability? Also, what ideas do you have about letting my teen work for others and ensuring that he is in a safe, age appropriate environment?

What can I do next?

Our HOA has a website and link that can only be accessed by the homeowners. There is a list of teens interested in babysitting, pet sitting, odd jobs, etc.

Also, Market Street just opened and he might be eligible to work part time there. They have teens that take groceries out to the car. I have also heard that Starbucks will hire teens.

Good luck

Sometimes local churches have newsletters that go out...maybe you could advertise in there. On this website would be great too...I'd avoid things like craiglist. If you have an HOA they might have a newsletter or something too. Check the local city websites and local city papers too. You might try their classified section. To ensure it is safe, have the calls come through you so you can talk with the people he'd do work for and maybe you can drive him and pick him up and make sure the people are aware of that you are doing that too (sometimes knowing there is adult presence helps). Good luck!

I would second the Market Street plan. They do hire as young as 15. It's a very safe environment and I've met one of the manager's at the one in Allen (it's new right off of Bethany and 75). He was very nice, down to earth, has a couple of kids and seemed very easy going. I think that I would prefer my child to be in that kind of environment versus just working for people randomly. Hope that helps.
