I was just doing laundry and on my shelf by the laundry I had a candle burning. ( no not anywhere that it could start a fire) However My dog who is very courious knocked it over and now the clothes that got hit are covered with wax any ideas on how to get it out?
I did the iron and paper bag and everything came out. I did have to soak some of the shirts in Oxi Clean to get the big wax stains out. Thanks so much for the advice.
Hi A.. I had this happen once. Simply put a paper towel (or coffee filter-type paper) over the spilled wax, and then put a hot iron over the towel. The heat draws the wax up into the towel, which can then be discarded. Hopefully there will not be a stain. It all depends on the fabric.

I use the brown bag thing too. It takes it out of my table cloths. Just make sure that you don't use a part of the bag with writing on it.
Freeze the bigger chunks with ice and pick off what you can. Then, with paper towels covering the wax, iron it. The iron will pick up the wax onto the paper towel. Keep moving the paper towel until it's funny cleaned. You'll go through alot of papertowels depending on how much wax you were able to pick off, but it works.

freeze the item and it will flake off as long as it did not obsorb to much into the fabric

Get a brown paper bag and your iron. Heat the iron and place the bag over the wax. Iron the bag and as the wax gets hot the brown bag will pull the wax off. This works for carpets too. This is one of the candle tips I give when I do my PArtylite shows.

freeze it, then scrape it off...once you have most off, use very hot water and dawn dish soap...it worked for me!
materials needed:
iron
brown paper grocery bag(s)
Place clothing on surface. Place brown grocery bag on top of wax affected area. Iron, moving bag to a clean area once wax is visible on bag. This has always worked for me. I think it was a Heloise tip I read when I was 7 or 8. (I've always been obsessive about my clothes.)
Try taking an ice cube to the spot and scraping off the access. I have this product called Googone, I am sure you can get it at most groceries stores or department stores, to remove whatever is left. I haven't used it for wax but the bottle says that it will work for that. I have used it for tape and other "gooey" things and its worked well.

get it really cold and it should come off you might need some kind of pretreater to get the stain out but to get the actual wax off just get it cold I use ice or stick it in the freezer

I think we all have had this problem at one time or another! Freeze & scrape the excess (just as many others have posted), but I would recommend using a brown paper bag rather than newspaper with the iron, depending on the type of fabric, sometimes the newsprint can transer onto the fabric. Try rubbing the spot with an ice cube to harden it. Then just pick it off.
this is going to sound absolutely crazy but put your clothes in the freezer the wax should come off and then spray the spot if their is on with WD-40 then just wash your clothes with your regular laundry detergent eveything should come out. Its worth a try.
This is a very easy way to get wax off clothing or carpet! All you need to do is get either a paper towel or a newspaper, and an iron. Heat the iron up-not too hot!- and put the paper down over the wax. Put the iron over the paper where the wax is, and heat it up for a few seconds. The wax will absorb into the paper. We used to do this a lot at my church after any candelight services, and it works great!
I learned a trick years ago that has saved cloths, carpet, and furniture: Pick/pull off as much wax as you can. Then, put a paper towel or newspaper over the wax and iron the paper. As the wax melts underneath, it will soak into the paper. Keep putting new paper on as the old paper has absorbed what it can. Then, when the wax is off, you may need to use a degreaser to get the rest of the spot out.
Another candle trick that I love is for votive holders. Don't you hate when you burn a votive candle in a holder and it gets all gunky inside and you can't get all the wax out without boiling water and major work?
If you put just a tsp. or so of water in the bottom of the holder before you put the candle in, the remains will pop right out! If there is a little bit of waxy residue left, a little rubbing alcohol and a paper towel and it will look like new in a heartbeat.
