I give her cereal and a bath and a massage. I do the same routine and she goes to bed really good. When she gets up she just screams until i feed her and goes right back to sleep i try to let her sooth her self once in a while she does but not often.any suggestions???

Are you breastfeeding? If so, she may still get up to nurse until about 9 months! If not, you should try letting her cry it out! I know it's hard, but it works, and if you stickwith it, it hopefully will only take a few days. As long as you know she is not sick, I would let her cry it out. I had to do this w/ all 3 of my children, and it worked wonders. After about a week, they all slept through the night! Good luck.

I personally would not expect a 5 month old to sleep through the night just yet. They do still get hungry. If she screams until you feed her, I'd take it that's a good sign that her tummy is hungry. But then again, I do not believe in the cry it out option.

It's normal for babies that age to be up twice a night...she is too little to be crying it out and I wouldn't have started her on cereal either, but that's YOUR choice, not mine. She is getting ready to go through her six month growth spurt as well, so the night time feedings will probably increase. It'll get worse before it gets better! my daughter just went through her six month growth spurt and nursed non stop. I was lucky to get an hour and a half of sleep at a time during the night.

Hi, I was told several times by my Dr. that babies' stomachs are not equipped to sleep through the night until they are 8 months. Getting up once or twice at this age is normal. I did not let my babies cry it out until 8-9 months when I knew they weren't actually hungry anymore. Hope that helps.

Every baby I know is different, but my daughter was sleeping through the night when she was a little less then 3 months old. Are you giving her formula or breastfeeding? I was giving mine formula at night and a little cereal(what kind of cereal are you giving her?) and that really did the trick. It maybe different if you are BF. I would lay my daughter down at 8/8:30ish and she would sleep almost 9-10 hours straight. I would also give her 10 minutes and see if she cries it out. I started doing that with naps during the day because she is a horrible napper most days, and she would fall back asleep.

Read "Health Sleep Habits, Happy Child" by Dr. Marc Weissbluth. It's based on actual research, not anecdotal evidence regarding infant//child sleep patterns. You can try all the techniques or pick and choose the ones to suit your family. Within a week you should see a change.

My baby slept great at night but had a terrible nap schedule. Within a week of using the techniques he was napping great and going down without a fuss. He also sleeps 11-12 hours at night without waking (6:30-6:00 or 6:30)

Hi N.,

I dont know what time you are putting your daughter to bed but my sister suggested to me to put my son down earlier and it works. We were putting him down at 9 and so we pulled it back a half hour each week and now he goes down between 7-7.30 and sleeps until 6.30 or 7.30 some mornings. He is a big eater so we give him 7 ounzes and off he goes. Also if she wakes for a feed try to take a minute each night off the feed so she becomes less reliant on it. I hope this helps and good luck
