We're bringing the kids (2.5 yo and 6 mo) to York, Maine for a couple of days next week. We will definitely be going to the zoo. Any advice on family friendly restaurants and/or lodging? We'd love a place w/ a pool... oooooh and a hot tub the Mom and Dad can take turns using once the kiddos are alseep. Ahhhhhhh. :-)

Thanks,
K.

We love York -- usually go at least once per summer! Definitely check out the Goldenrod Restaurant in York Beach, very near Short Sands beach. They make their own taffy & have a taffy pulling machine in the window that's fun for the kids to watch. They also have an ice cream counter and sit-down restaurant with simple diner-type classic food (good breakfast, simple sandwiches, etc). Great family place. A relatively inexpensive place to stay is the Sands by the Sea hotel -- right across from Short Sands and the Fun-o-rama arcade. We stayed there a few times 5 years ago or more, but usually prefer the Union Bluff hotel nearby. The UB has a restaurant and bar in the hotel and nicer rooms, but no pool. Sands by the Sea is not elegant (motel style), but clean and they have a pool. Great location. Also, check out Brown's ice cream stand, for the kids, of course ;), near the lighthouse. Have fun!! :)

I know the anchorage hotel on long sands beach has an indoor pool and hot tub and is a walk across the road to the beach. I used to lifeguard on York Beach and in my opinion Long Sands is the safest beach for young kids in exception of the harbor which doesn't have a less expensive option for lodging that I am aware of.

You will have to go to short sands in town and walk around. So many options for food. They have an old candy shop that still makes taffy in the windows - you can have a meal there too I think. There is a pizza place up the block (out the back exit of the zoo).

Have fun!!

Yay I live in Maine! The Zoo is definately going to take a huge chunk out of your day... Be sure to take the kids for a ride on the elephant! The beach is right near there also.

Try going to http://www.destination360.com/north-america/us/maine/york

It has information about York and different things to do there. It also has a section to search for hotels right in the area. Good luck and have fun :)

FYI...they dont change the bands they give you for the ride and zoo all day pass. So you can totally go back with the same band more than once.
