I have an 8 year old daugther with precocious puberty, and I would be interested in talking to other moms who have dealt with this to see what their experiences have been. Thanks!

What can I do next?

My daughter is now 11 years old and I noticed her sudden growth spurt at the age of 8 months. She has always been the biggest person in her class. She matured so fast that I was in shock every month. She began having her menstruation at the age of 9 and then she stopped growing. She's now 5'6", wears size 10/11 clothes and size 11 shoe. She was tested at the age of 6 and the doctors said there isn't anything to worry about. Their main concern was about her menstruating too early (before 9 years of age). If she had they would have stopped it because mentally she was not ready to handle it. She is doing fine, except for children teasing her about her size. I always encourage her and make her feel comfortable and confident with her size and to ignore what people say. My advice would be to keep talking to her and help her to feel comfortable with her body and the changes.

Hi C.,

My mother-in-law started hers at 8 so I was for-warned that it might happen. I saw signs in my first daughter and was able to prevent it with a change in diet, an absorbable multivitamin for nutrition, and exercise. I agree that removing soy from her diet is a must.

This condition is not good to just "go thru." There are repercussions later in life and she'll appreciate you helping her so much more when she gets older. If you want more specific information, let me know.

God bless,

M.

Could you be a little more specific? My 14 yr old developed at a young age - before I respond I want to be clear of your need.

My friend got her daughter the American Girl book that explains things at their level. I also have an 8 year old. She was asking why her legs are hairy and some of her friends don't yet.
