I had hyperthyroidism before I became pregnant the first time. Mine was maintained throughout my pregnancy with medicine. My children are 3 1/2 years and 8 months and are progessing normally.
I was curious to see if anyone else had pregnancy induced hyperthyroidism? My 2nd pregnancy last year was a total nightmare. I was just wondering if anyone else has experienced a pregnancy like that? If so, how's your baby developing? I've heard that all the cortisol that your body relases actually helps the babys brain develop better! I would agree with that so far! My first pregnancy was a breeze! My son is advanced in most everything he does! But my daughter(2nd preg) seems to be hitting milestones even earlier! I was taking many medications: PTU, Toporol, Klonopin. It was not a fun year. But all in all I'm getting back to me, and my daughter is healthy!!!

Hi C.! I had pregnancy induced hyperthyroidism. It was my first pregnancy, about 4 years ago. It was the worst time of my life!!! I could not sleep, my heart was always racing, I was extremely nauseated, and depressed. The doctors and my family thought I was just "a crazy pregnant lady," but I knew something was wrong with me. Thankfully, after the second trip to the ER, they found out what it was! I was on PTU, Propranonol (sp?) and Zoloft. Thankfully, my child was healthy and she is developing just fine.
Take care,
U.
Hi,
I had gestational diabetes during my first pregnancy and my daughter was born healthy. I didn't have it during my second pregnancy with my son. I did, however, come down with hyperthyroidism when my son was two years old. We at first tried to control it with PTU, but whenever my doc reduced the dosage my thyroid would start up production of excessive hormone. I had graves disease and we decided to radiate my thyroid and I am now on permanant thyroid replacement hormone for the rest of my life.
There is history of diabetes and thyroid disease in my family. My mom, sister, and brother have diabetes and my aunt (her sister) had graves disease when her second child was a toddler. Those diseases are all in the same family.
Hopefully, your bout with it was just temporary.
Hi C.~
I developed post partum thyroiditis after my first pregnancy.. it was a really tough year with trying to get that all balanced. After I was Hyper I plunged hypo for the latter part of the year. I finally balanced back out. The thing that saved me was constant communication with my endocrynologist... I just gave birth to my second child- my first is so smart and ahead of all the milestones...Of course, what parent doesn't think that their child is smart! Anyways, hope that this helps in some way...
Well, not pregnancy induced hyperhyroidism, but hyperhyroidism anyway. I was diagnosed about two years prior to getting pregnant with my twins. It is, in fact a night mare to be hyper while pregnant, especially when its a multiple pregnancy, no matter how hard my dr's tried, there was just no way to regulate the thyroid with all the other stuff that goes on with multiples. I only took PTU, no problems with blood pressure thank goodness... Since then, I have had radioactive iodine therapy on my thyroid and am now, after two years, hypothyroid and getting ready to start the meds for that, if its not one its the other, but the RI therapy is a godsend, especially since I was extreme hyperthyroid, now it just doesn't work at all, plus the meds are much less expensive. Anyway, I'm glad that everything worked out ok for you, I know how difficult it was.
I had Graves disease that wasn't diagnosed until early in my second pregnancy. I had a miscarriage prior to that pregnancy. I was given PTU but had an allergic reaction after being on it for 5 wks. Fortunately, it was my second trimester which is the only time they could do surgery to remove my entire thyroid. Yes, the whole thing was a nightmare! I had trouble not only getting my level of synthroid correct, but also my magnesium and potassium. I was also taking Paxil throughout the pregnancy.Uggh!
Luckily, my little boy is now a healthy 5 yr old. He is quite active and we deal with some behavioral issues, but given what his little body went through....he is perfect!
I was diagnosed with thyroid problems after my youngest was born. He was born with club feet, had problems with his shots( he didn't get all of them) but turned out to be the healthiest of the 3...He just turned 20! He is smart (of course, I am his mother & he was homeschooled). For keeping my thyroid "under control", I juice carrot and spinach ( 12oz to 4), try to eat spinach instead of lettuce and eat eggs - -A V O I D sugars, simple carbs (including brown rice and w/w bread) ie.. go vegetarian as much as you can; that has helped me with those crazy swings - Enjoy the short ones!!!
Hi C.,
I noticed that you're an independent insurance consultant. I'm going to be shopping around for insurance here in the next month or so. We do not have kids yet, and are going to start trying again in the next couple of months, but more than likely we'll have to go to a fertility specialist. I'm looking for a plan that would help cover expenses. The company I work for will cover $100.00 a month toward the cost.
A little about me: I'm in outside sales for a salon distributor, and my husband of almost 6 yrs. has made it through his 2nd year having his own roofing business. We're wanting to go full throttle in trying to have a baby. I love this sight even though I don't have kids yet.
Thanks for any help,
M.
This doesnt answer your question, sorry. Im emailing you because I want to know what company you sell insurance for. I am going to look into getting private insurance soon.
