Hi, I have been experiencing very intensified PMS symptoms for the 2 weeks prior to my period. Some of the symptoms are weepiness, worthlessness, hopelessness and so on. This has really started to affect my relationship with my children and my husband. After a particular bad week filled with fights with my husband he began to research and disorders that this may be. He found PMDD(Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder). I have been keeping the body diary to print off for my Doctor. I was wondering if anyone has this and if anyone is being treated with the medications suggested for it. Any answers would help me out a lot. Thanks!!

What can I do next?

I was finally diagnosed with this a few years ago & my Dr. gave me PAXIL CR. I take it every day, not just for a week or 2. And I do not feel drugged or anything. But I do not feel like I am going to rip eveyone apart either. Its worked wonders for me.Although, I have just switched to PROZAC 20mg a day & its just as good & there are no sexual side effects with this as with the paxil I was on. Different meds work in different ways like that. Not to mention that I have had positive weigtloss with the PROZAC. Whoo hoo~

Ever consider a Mirena IUD???? I see you have two small children. I have about the same ages. We are not really planning anymore children, but did not wwant permeanant. I got the Mirena and found the happy side effect of NO MORE PERIODS!!!!! I have no more PMS or period for that matter. It is a little pricey (about $575 but lasts 5 years). I figure I have saved that money in tampons and medications. Consider it! I have never felt this even or happy!

L.,
I have experienced this and did not know what it was until after my husband and I divorced. I had since remarried but still had the same issues and then when my current husband and I almost got a divorce, I knew it was me. I hated being around anyone, the kids, my husband, my family. It was the worst feeling for me. I finally went to the doctor and explained what was going on with me. She told me it would probably only get worse. Wow, now that was huge, I asked about meds and she put me on wellbutrin. It did not work for me, it made me even crazier. She then put me on Lexapro and I am sane again. This drug is my miracle drug. I am a mother, a wife and Myself again!!!
Meds do different things to different people so you may have to experiment but get help. If you would like to talk at anytime email address is: ____@____.com and then we can exchange phone numbers.
God's Best to you,
C.

Hello L.!

I had the same problem as you are experiencing, I do mean the exact same things. I went to my dr and told her about it and she prescribed a med. called Serafem. You take it days 14-28 and it works like a charm! It has been a blessing to me.. I was weary of going on med. but I knew I had to try something before it affected anyone else in my family. I have had no awful side effects at all and I felt so good those days I started taking it all month. I highly recommend this, good luck! If you need to talk anytime my personal email is ____@____.com. Sometimes it helps to know you are not the only one going thru this, you are not an awful person, you just need to help you body even out it's hormones. Keep me posted!

This is a site from webmd.com, they have some really great and helpful articles. They deal with "the what" and "the how" it is treated, along with pretty much everything thing else. Anyway, I hope the site helps you to learn more about the different treatments. Good luck.

I too have been experience SEVERE PMS symptoms since the birth of our 15 month old. I went to the dr and he did a simple blood test to check my estrogen levels which were in the basement. The cure? He put me on the pill - I could tell an almost immediate difference, so could hubby. I really hate to be on anti-depressants, which appear to be what other people have been prescribed, because they make me feel numb to everything (it may be just my reaction to them) so when I found out I could go on the pill to balance out my estrogen levels I was ecstatic and that's really all it took to level me out.

I have been taking a low dose of Prozac for a few years now and it has helped tremendously. Before I couldn't stand to be around others or myself for that matter and I hurt all over. When I first began taking the Prozac, which is what Sarafem is, I didn't even realize that I didn't have any PMS symptoms until I started my cycle. I was amazed at how much this has helped me. I don't plan on stopping this med anytime soon.
