Anyone Know a Great OB/CNM?

I just moved to the Bountiful, UT area and I'm 15 weeks pregnant with #2. My first was a c-section due to my baby being breech and I'm looking for someone who is 100% with me on trying a VBAC. I have been going to an OB in the Avenues Women's Center, but I'm kind of on the fence about her. I have not received any referrals from neighbors because they all travel for their OBs... I really want one that is close. Bedside manner is a big plus, but the big thing is someone who is just willing to go with me and my wishes.

Any and all advice is much appreciated! Thanks!

So What Happened?

Thanks for your suggestions. I'm consistently surprised at the limited resourses in the SLC area. It's very discouraging. I decided to go back to my Midwife in South Ogden, who I absolutely love and feel after much deliberation that it is well worth the drive.

Dear Linsey,

Congratulations on your pregnancy! I hope this message is recieved in restful and good health. Is isn't easy doing a mother's work, but it sure it rewarding. I am impressed with your proactive planning for this birth. It will pay off, especially with the right support.

There is a group of midwives that are excellent at the new hospital. Teresa Damery, Ida Ripley, Angela Bonare...there are several good ones. They will be a great support for your VBAC.

A doula would be a great resource for you too. DONA trains and certifies doulas all over North America. Don't be afraid to interview different doulas.

What is a doula? http://www.dona.org/mothers/index.php

You and your partner/husband deserve to have the best support. Doula's are an outstanding resource for success!!

There is also a group of women obstetricians in Salt Lake. Melissa Brown, Sara Jane Pieper, Lisa Gravelle, Andrea Herbert, Natalie Loemen. I don't know how they support VBAC, however, they were recommended by the first mentioned group of midwives as "good OB's".

Feel free to contact me if you have any other questions. I am happy to help any way I can.

Best Wishes,
T. B.

Hey Linsey,

I actually am 31 weeks prego and at 20-ish weeks changed doctors from the Avenues Women's Clinic: where I used the doctors for my first three babies...to the highly recomended Dr. Julia Johanson in south Ogden Circle of Life clinic. I live in Centerville. The drive may be a few extra minutes...but I like her so much better then I liked any of my other doctors (I had three different ones at the Avenues) I wish I knew of a really good one in Bountiful as well...it would be a lot closer! But if you're willng to make the drive, Dr. Johanson is great.

Good Luck and Congrats!
R.

Hi, I know how hard it is to find an OB/CNM to deliver a VBAC. My first was a c-section and my last two were VBAC's. I went to the IHC Nurse Midwives. They were great and used to be up by the capital but might now be in the new offices down on 5000 S. There number is ###-###-####. Have you tried calling around the offices near you to see if anyone delivers VBAC. I have found a lot of OB's that do, but I personally preferred midwives since I wanted to go natural without any meds and felt they would more support me in that. Good Luck! I will keep my ears open for any others!

So the U is pretty much the EXACT same drive as the avenues. maybe even a little more- HOWEVER, I go to a CNM office at the Madsen Health clinic basically on the campus(if you know where the institute is, the parking lots connect) I had a c-sec with my first and due in 5 weeks with the next planning on a VBAC with a midwife and doula. So far so great. The only problem with the midwives office is that you get whoever is on call to labor with you- however, I've been to 4 of the midwives so far and spoken with 6 of them, I've only been on the fence about 1! And it was late at night and really my problem wasnt that easy... but the ones I would highly recommend are Melissa Boll, Peggy Allen, and Claudia Gerard. Claudia is "my" midwife but I dare say I would have picked Peggy or Melissa just as easily, and maybe even over Claudia. Melissa is younger and seems a little more liberal and blunt, but not overbearing or rude at all, she's hysterical. Melissa was by far the most thorough and the visit went on for as long as I deemed necessary and she never made me or my husband feel rushed or that any question was stupid. Peggy is older, but still "with it" and came across as a very caring concerned mother figure who would be fantastic in labor. claudia generally cares and seems to have a laid back approach to most things. She addresses all my concerns but takes the attitude to just calm down and it will work out fine, and if it doesnt, she knows what to do, I personally just have a hard time trusting people. The ENTIRE office's philosophy on VBAC is pretty much the same(VBAC is preferable, your body knows what to do and women have birthed naturally for forever and they are all there to help) and they've all been thorough and fantastic about my fears and wants for the actual labor. We hired a doula this time around and they've been very positive about her as well. Good luck whatever route you take- I hate finding doctors!
