Anyone Know of a Doula Who Teaches Bradley Birthing Technique?

Hi, all. I *just* transferred from the clinic at HUP to a Natural Birthing Suite in CC last week. As a result I'm behind the 8-ball in regards to Birthing Classes. I would like to take the Bradley classes, but I'm already 30w5d and the classes are 12 weeks long. I'm kind of fretting about the timeline since I'm so far along, and you never know - she might want out early ;)

MY QUESTION: Does anyone know of a doula who teaches the Bradley Technique and who is available for hire? The midwife/midwives will be too busy with the actual delivery to be able to devote all of their attention to my comfort, so I would like a doula. My husband is a wonderful, wonderful man who will help a LOT during the delivery, so I prefer a doula who will coach him/us instead of jumping in and doing everything herself, making it so that my husband can't take part. I would like a very personable, friendly, sweet-tempered doula, but also one that is assertive with her knowledge. Would prefer someone who isn't new-agey earth mama, but "crunchy" is fine (we're crunchy ourselves). Catholic would be my preference, but is not a requirement. If I can find one that teaches the Bradley classes, it'll be perfect!

THANK YOU!

So What Happened?

Thank you everybody for all of your suggestions, offers, and help. We found a great class taught by a local certified Bradley trainer that fits our short timeline - it's perfect and we've enjoyed it greatly thus far. Still looking for a doula, but have been dragging my feet on that =>_<= THANK YOU!

Hi A.:
I gave birth 19 months ago, using a doula, and after taking Bradley classes. The woman who gave the classes was wonderful, and is also a birth doula. Her name is Janet Cruice, and she works out of Philadelphia, and she is 'crunchy'. She was unfortunately booked as doula for when I went to term, so I had to use another doula... I'm not sure if she would be interested in giving one-on-one Bradley classes, and if she is available to act as doula for when you will be delivering, but you can try to reach out to her: her website is www.specialbeginnings.net. If she can't help you in the timeline you need, she may be able to recommend someone else. Good luck.

I also took Bradley Birth Classes, and loved them. My son was born naturally, and it was a wonderful experience! My Instructor isn't teaching in this area any more, but you might try www.bradleybirth.org. Some wonderful books you should definitely read:

The Thinking Woman's Guide to a Better Birth - Henci Goer
Natural Childbirth the Bradley Way
Husband-Coached Childbirth
The Birth Book - Dr. Sears

Congrats on your decision to have a natural birth - you'll do great!!!

Best,
T.

Hi A., Congratulations on your pregnancy! I would be available as a Doula for your birth and/or private Birth classes if you would like to email me. I taught Bradley classes from 2002--2006 and now teach BabyBodyBirth classes.

Hi A.-
It's great to hear you are looking for a doula. I myself am one, but not trained in the Bradley method. You don't necessarily need to find a doula that is trained with that method as most are trained in general to support not only you but encourage your husband as well. If you would like to e-mail me ____@____.com i could give you some information and another person to contact about classes they are not Bradley but the woman was trained originally using that method. hope to hear from you.

Hi A.! Congratulations on your pregnancy! I read your post and wanted to introduce myself. I am a childbirth educator, birth doula, and breastfeeding counselor. I teach classes based on Birth Works philosophies, particularly that which states that the knowledge of how to give birth exists within each woman. My classes focus on helping women and their partner rediscover the confidence within themselves to be informed and active participants in their labor and birth. The next group series I will be teaching begins April 1st and will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 each Tuesday night through May 20th in my home in South Philly. I teach private classes as well for those who are unable to attend the pre-scheduled time. As I mentioned, I am also a doula. Depending on my availability around your estimated due date, I would be more than happy to discuss my doula services with you. If you'd like, you can find out more info about me and what I offer at www.blossomingbelliesbirth.com. You can also send me an email if you'd like; I'd be more than happy to talk more in-depth with you. Good luck with your search and, again, congratulations on your pregnancy!
Blessings,
B.
