Hi Moms! :) My 4 year old son and 1 year old daughter have the same birthday, which is coming up soon (will be 5 and 2). I've decided to host their birthdays from my home this year and would love to have some really fun, cute little games for the kids to play at the party. Does anyone have experience with some games that worked out well?

Thanks so much! :)
~M.

It sounds old-fashioned but I suggest pin the tail on the donkey and bobbing for apples in a barrel. Also, hire a clown to come entertain your children.

Hi M.,
I cheated and had Staci Gray (www.stacigraymusic.com) come and perform for my daughters last BD party - Stacy is VERY reasonable and the kids had a ball. She came and sang and played the gitar. For a big ending she sang a song about bubbles, turned on a big bubble blower and the kids went wild.
She packed up, we had pizza and cake - bippity boppity boo, it was done.

Hi there M.,
I do have a lot of cute party ideas for young children. If you tell me a little about your children's interest I can send you a few party ideas.

Hi M.,

For my son's 4th birthday a couple of years ago, I had to come up with some indoor games since the weather had been cold and rainy. As a kid I remember playing all sorts of silly games, so I thought I'd go retro and use some familiar favorites: musical chairs, limbo, hokey-pokey. The theme of the party was trains, so all the music was kiddie train music. I had everyone under the age of 60 years get up and do the hokey-pokey. That was a hoot, watching everyone get into that! After each game, I had all the kids pick a prize from the basket (it was filled with little token toys, the kind you can get for 4 or 5 for $1).

Later that day, my friend calls me to tell me her daughter's reaction to the party. Her daughter said "Mom, that was the best birthday party EVER!"

I think sometimes we get too caught up into doing those over-the-top, spend-a-lot, crazy parties for our kids and we forget to do the familiar, old favorites. Sometimes, when it's more simple, it's less crazy and more fun!

Have fun planning!

Stacy Gray is a great idea - we went to a party with her and my girls loved it!

My kids (aged 4 and 2) really enjoyed versions of "Pin the Tail on the Donkey" (like tape the bow on the little girl) and "Duck Duck Goose" right now.

I also know that the May issue of Parents Magazine had a bunch of suggestions for birthday parties. I bet you could find it online as well, on their website. Good luck!
