Hello mamas! I just began taking Celexa for my chronic depression...it is a new medication for me, I was previously on Paxil for an extended period but that is considered more risky during pregnancy. I am in the 2nd trimester so it was ok'd by both the OB and the psychiatrist, but I'm just wondering if it has been successful for you either pregnant or not. I've tried quite a few of them and am hoping this one will at least be somewhat helpful to get me through and curb postpartum blues. Thanks!

What can I do next?

Celexa actually has the least side effects of SSRI antidepressants. I work in geri-psych and it's a good one to use with the elderly for this reason. It has the least GI side effects and least sedation, it doesn't give people an increased or decreased appetite and doesn't interfere with sleep either. I hope that it works for you, if you have chronic depression it is a great idea to have something to carry you through postpartum.

I take Celexa for depression and my son is on it for his OCD and depression. Neither of us has had any side effects. Within only a couple of weeks, I started feeling like my old self again. Needless to say, I'm a fan! I really didn't think I'd be feeling better that quickly, but it's made a huge difference for me.

I am now on Celexa and absolutely love it! I used to take it years ago, but, stopped b/c I was pregnant. Just recently I got back on it only b/c my self-help measures to combat my anxiety was not working. I do not like taking medicine b/c I feel I should be able to control my anxiety on my own. But I just fought and fought and fought and just needed some relief. I knew it worked for me in the past and mentioned it to my doctor who was very supportive of my decision.

I love it and began feeling relief within 48 hours. I will have to say, the first day, I was more anxious than normal. Also, it altered my desire for sex. However, these side effects were only temporary and went away after my body became used to the meds.

Now I feel normal and relaxed. Yes, I have occassional anxiety when in extreme and stressful situations...however, I can manage these situations much easier and feel more convident in settling any inner-conflicts.

My advice is to just give the celexa a chance. Take the bare-minimum dosage and gradually increase it if/when needed...and always stay in constant communication with your doctor.

I took Celexa (40mg) through two pregnancies safely! During my first pregnancy, my psychiatrist wanted to wean me off of it for delivery, but I was having WAY too much trouble with that and the doctors all agreed I could take it through delivery. Best thing I ever did for myself ad no side effects for baby #1 or #2. Let me know if youhave specific questions, I would be happy to help if I can!
