Appt / Sick Child

I have an appt with my OBGYN in the morning for my yearly exam. My 6 year old son is kind of sick and i don't want to leave him with anyone incase they get sick. I have rescheduled twice already and they made it for the summer when there's no school. I waited 3 months to get another appt. What should I do? I do not have a sitter available either. He is not running a fever but has been on the toilet a lot. I don't think he should go in the room with me and hubby won't be here.

What can I do next?

Ditto to what Bug said! I was also high risk and getting a stomach virus would have put me in the hospital! Reschedule, no on will allow vomiting or diarrhea in their offices.

if he's got the diarrhea, please don't take him to an OB office. with or without fever, you're generally considered contagious for 24 hours AFTER the last vomiting/toilet incident. out of consideration for the pregnant women, newborn babies, and medical providers that your son would potentially come in contact with, please make other arrangements, either by arranging care for your child(your husband) or changing your appointment. the least of the concern should be your son "going in the room with you" - if he weren't sick, he could turn his head and all would be fine - please be respectful of others and their health, though.

When I was pregnant, I was very high risk. I could only leave the house to see my OB. It would have been VERY dangerous for me to get sick. There might be woman like that coming into your OB office.

I would call them first thing in the morning and tell them. I would not be surprised if they weren't comfortable with him coming.

you are going to have to reschedule, do it during school if you can to make sure you are able to go alone. You wouldn't want the poor thing to have an accident b/c you were trying to get to your OB appt. I have had that happen before and it stinks but it is for the best.

I would not take him to the dr. appt. Call and explain the situation. They will be happy to reschedule, and may be able to fit you in next week.

My OB's office has a policy posted in several locations stating that sick children should not be brought to their office. It is very bad timing, but I think you should reschedule (again).

I always follow the same policy I would if my son was sick/fever/stomach bug, whatever, and going to school. Anything involving a toilet and a sick kid, never should be taken to a public place. Especially to an OBGYN. Lots of pregnant women, and little babies there. I would call, apologize, but let them know he is sick and you don't want to take him there. I am sure they would understand. Otherwise, I would ask my husband to stay home for the hour I go.

It depends on what you mean by kind of sick.

I have taken my children when I haven't had a sitter they hang out with the receptionist when the dr is with me.

Edited: if he is having stomach issues please don't take him with you. Call and reschedule. My definition of kinda sick is sneezing runny nose probably allergies but not 100% sure.....diarrhea= definitely sick, not kind of

Take him in the room, bring him some books, coloring pages, a lolipop and a snack and he will be just fine. GL

I would say call your OB and tell them exactly what is going on and let THEM make the decision...since the illness seems to be a little bit benign. If he goes will he sit out in the waiting room and be quiet with a book or a game while you are in the room? I can understand that you wouldnt want him in the room with you for the exam but you also don't want him running wild in the room. Do you have a friend that you could either leave him with or bring the friend along to keep him company in the waiting room?
Quite a dilemna...I am not sure WHAT I would do!!!

if he's not running a fever. take him.

I personally don't like taking my kids to OB/GYN appointments so I would have my husband stay home with them...but that's ME...
