Are My Daughter's Teeth Falling Out Too Quickly??

Last week my 5 1/2 lost her first tooth (bottom front). We didn't even know it was loose and everyone was surprised. I thought she was a bit young for it; I didn't expect it till closer to late 6 or 7 years old, but I know it's not unusual or a concern.

Yesterday suddenly another tooth (top front) was loose. Visibly wobbly loose. Ok, that was quick, but ok. We have a dentist appointment coming in July. They'll check her out.

OK...today another tooth (other top front) is loose!!! Geez, what is going on? Call the dentist. Not worried, but we can come in for x-rays to see how close to the surface the new teeth are. OK, I feel a little better. We'll just wait for our appointment.

Tonight, ANOTHER tooth (next to top front, a cananie?) is loose! What the heck is going on??? Now I'm almost sick to my stomach wondering if she'll have any teeth in two weeks. Is something wrong?

DH looked on line and couldn't find anything. I found a 24-hour nurse line and called it. She found info on both the Mayo Clinic site and a gov't health site that confirmed my thoughts that it's happening at an ok age. But she didn't find anything on the normal frequency of loss. Anyone got anything on this? I am sooooo eager for her pediatrician's office to open in the morning!!

Thanks!!

What can I do next?

My son, was 6 in May, just lost his first tooth last Friday. He now has 4 others that are very loose. He's sort of moving down the same line as your daughter, his just haven't came out yet.
He has a girl in his class that as all ready lost 12 teeth and she just turned 6. All her front teeth top and bottom and her cananies are gone. Hers started falling out last summer. I don't think she's lost one in several months now. The new are all coming in.
Your daughters new teeth are probably right under the surface. Once they start to move the just push the baby teeth out at an alarming rate.
I really think your daughter is fine. Check with your doctor and dentist though to be sure, and enjoy being the tooth fairy!

My son was 4½ when he lost his 1st tooth and we rang to the dentist immedietly in fear of his being toothless. She said that it is normal and usually if they get teeth early, they lose them early. He was 5½ months with his 1½ tooth and he is 16 now with perfectly fine teeth :-) :-)

Hi D.,

I don't think you have anything to worry about. My son turned 6 in March and he has already lost 8 teeth. He lost his first one on June 18th of last year and then the next one (we did not even know was lose) on June 22nd. I think the reason he has lost so many so early is because his teeth came in at a very early age. He got his first two teeth when he was just 4 months old and two more when he was 6 months old. By the time he was about a year old he had a full mouth of teeth. Hope this helps make you feel a little bit better.

My first lost his 1st at about 5 and it seems like they all came out at once. He got teeth at 3 months. I worked for a dentist for about 11 yrs and we saw all different patterns in losing their teeth, some would be lose for a day and then come out and otherw would hang onto them for weeks. If she didn't have a bad fall or bang them, then it is probably just the naturally process, she might be wiggling them without you knowing it, which will help them along once they get loose, even grinding her teeth can help loosen them up. Also if she has a small jaw, one adult tooth can put extra pressure on the surrounding baby teeth and help speed them along.

If you don't see the adult teeth within a week or so, it would be a good idea to take her in if you are concerned, but this sounds like about the right age. Kindergarten/first graders often have toothless school pictures.
