Are Single Dose MMR Immunizations Available in America?

I have not immunized my son against MMR and am considering my options in the coming year. I am wondering if single doses of the immunization were generally available. I am asking if there are seperate Measles, Mumps and Rubella vaccines available, not just the one that combines all three. But I have concerns with that as well. I am well aware of the Wakefield study, so unless you have any new information, I am not interested in hearing how that one particular study has been debunked. I know that already.

What can I do next?

It is not available as a separate vaccine. They did this while all the controversy of autism was out and hot. They have since then stopped, as it is not proffitable to the drug companies I suppose. Some parents, test their children for any immunity issues as well as allergies, before agreeing to the vaccines, due to the autism controversy that stated that children with autism most likely had a compromised immune system or were allergic to begin with, that left them more succeptable. Give a read beow and you decide what you'd like to do.

Oh wow - I started to respond that yes, of course they are available separately. Our pediatrician ordered them for us about 1.5 years ago. But looking at other people's responses, I guess the separate ones aren't available anymore. That's too bad.

I wasn't worried about autism or anything specific, but one of my daughters had a bad reaction to several combo vaccines given together at 6 months so the pediatrician agreed with me that splitting everything up and giving only one shot every few months was a safe thing to do. It's really too bad if that choice is no longer available to parents.

From everything I know, they are not. I believe that the manufacturers are no longer providing them separately and I don't believe there is anywhere in the US to get them.

When my son was going through this about 5 years ago they were, but only from our county health department. Most pediatricians did not order or stock them. Maybe is has changed, as other posters have said. To find out, call your county health department.

It is my understanding that they used to be available as 3 separate vaccines and has only just (within the last year or two?) been taken off the market completely, leaving parents no choice but to take the combined vaccine or none at all. = /

The same is true for the DTaP, I think - Dr. Sears' recommendation was to only opt for the tetanus due to some of the ingredients in the other two, but I don't think that is available anymore, either, unless you're in an ER situation with exposure to tetanus.

If not enough people are educated as to the benefits of administering these vaccines separately, then they won't ask for them. No market, no money. It ends up not being worth the cost of production for the pharm company, you know?

These were the latest I had heard on these, but if I'm wrong or there's new info - let me know!

I just took my 17 month old for her last DtAP shot and I inquired about individual mmr shots and the nurse at the health clinic said they do not have them individually. I live in FL. Maybe it varies with each state?

I may be dense, but could you explain your question a little more--what you mean by a "single dose"? MMR is for measles, mumps and rubella. So that is 3 immunizations.
Are you asking if you can do them separately, or are you asking if they can be done in one dose without boosters, or are you asking both things?

we asked for them in 2005 and were told they don't order those. so i refused getting the single shot. at the next visit we were told they got them so i did the individual ones spread out over the year. but i have heard they stopped doing that? anyways you may ask your pediatrician if he is willing to order them for you. even if the cost is more, which it will be, in my opinion, it's worth it.
