We are. First we took the kids out of school 5 days early back in June. We went to Disney for 13 days. Then we went to my cousins house for the fourth of July weekend. Then my kids did a local camp for the month of July. Hosted a neighborhood waterfight. We went camping, grandparents took two of my kids for a week. Went on a 10 mile bike ride with 7 yr old and he not once complained. What stamina. Visited my parents. Vist my in laws regularly now since they are in a local assited living. Its good for the kids to see them it lifts my in laws spirits. Then we went camping again..to a GREAT camping site. We usually go on a nightly bike ride every single night..if my kids want to or not..it doesn't have to be long sometimes its just 15 min some nights its one hr. I managed to read 5 novels this summer and paint with water colors. My two younger kids are improving great with swimming after their swimming lessons. We are going to the Jersey shore for a week. Its been a blast..we are still going camping one more time this summer.

What can I do next?

The summer was Ho Hum until I spent 8 days in Jamaica with my wife to celebrate our 38th anniversary. That was the icing on the cake.

Now I have a warm fuzzy feeling about my entire summer. I will have to count this summer as one of my best because of the GREAT time I had with my wife. Life can be absolutely WONDERFUL when you've married your "bestest friend" and can spend time together.

AND a close second was my son graduating from medical school and finding a good job. I had a SIL graduate and get his BS degree. My wife got a promotion from one position to another to another to another over 6 months that yielded an almost 20% raise from the beginning. She loves her new position and is sought out by her boss and her bosses' boss because of her knowledge and skills (part of which she learned by being a SAHM for 8 kids). My son in the USAF got a promotion 2 years earlier that average for his career field and he got a choice assignment after putting up with a not so nice assignment. He was awarded "Volunteer of the month and quarter" by his unit which helped him get the choice assignment.

So it ended up being a GREAT SUMMER.

BTW, I almost forgot, 50 of you ladies came to my defense when three women on this site made disparaging remarks about me and said a man's opinion isn't wanted or needed on this site. You 50 made me feel exceptionally "at home and welcome", especially when the women that didn't like my opinion only got three votes. Every time I think about that my eyes mist over and my heart swells. Thank you! THANK YOU!
T H A N K Y O U ! ! ! !

Thank you for making me count my blessings. Good luck to you and yours.

Ive never been real fond of hot weather so I usually dread summer. I find other stuff to keep me happy. I stay inside a lot with the a/c going, and my car has a/c and I did ok this year. It seems like summer was too short but only because Im gauging it by the fact that my first (only) grand child is starting preschool in a few days. How time flies! I didnt have a kidney stone this summer so that was wonderful. I had a blast going to Disneyland even tho that was in the spring. Ive had fun with my grand daughter watchng her while mommy works and goes to school. Weve loved running to catch the ice cream man several days a week.(hes not a creepy molester). I cleaned out my garage better than I have in a long time and had a huge garage sale. Still stuff left to get rid of and a house full too, but it was big progress for me. I have enjoyed sewing and being online too. So yes all in all its been a good summer.
8kidsdad, I enjoy your advice and opinion most of the time. We are in the "older crowd" here and have some "older" experience so we somewhat think the same. Sounds like you have a lot to be grateful for with your kids, and wife. I for one am happy to have you here. (o:

YES! To bad it's over :(. This us actually my kiddos second week back in school. But we went swimming every week and I taught my daughter to swim. We spent whole days in pajamas. We went hiking, canoeing, fishing, and camping. We went to the zoo 3 times. We planted a big bountiful garden. We saw family we haven't seen in 8 years and the kids played like best friends. We watched sunsets and roasted marshmallows. We slept on the trampoline. We ran in the sprinkler and played on the slip n slide. Oh and I found out my 3 y/o loves flying kites as much as me. I feel so lucky that I got to enjoyed summer vacation with my kids.
