Hi
I have been having some arm pain that felt like electricity and had an mri done. They told me it was a bulge in my neck and gave me three injections of steriods. That specific pain went away and now I have pain that makes it hard to close my bra and reach to my back. Also it sometimes goes numb and it also feels very weak. I was wondering if you can help direct me to a good doctor to help in this situation. I am guessing that I tore something around my shoulder area.
Thank you

I had a similar experience with the pain and numbness in that area. I ended up having a pinched nerve. I saw a chiropractor and got some help from a PT on how to position myself when sleeping and while picking up my child. I am now pain free. The word of caution about going to a chiropractor before an x-ray or mri is understandable. I will say that a GOOD chiropractor won't try to adjust you before taking an x-ray herself. I asked for referals here on Mamasource for a good chiropractor and found a great one, who's even Christian.

Good luck to you! I hope your pain/numbness improves rapidly!

See a chiropractor first before getting surgery! You can at least get a second opinion before getting more injections. For an example: I had a burning pain in my shoulder that was getting bad. I work all day at a desk and it wasn't going away. I went to see my chiro and he adjusted me. It took two appointments ($35/ea) and I do not have the pain as of yet. It has been over a month and half. Your spine could be pinching a nerve that makes it seem like something is torn in your shoulder.

Good luck!

I've had a pinched nerve in my neck and pain radiated down my arm that felt like electricity. I went to a chiropractor and after only a couple or three adjustments I was pain-free. I WON'T take steroids!!! It's a case of "if the ailment doesn't get you, the cure will!" That stuff is awful.

Word of caution. My husband had a severe pain in his arm for months and his Dr sent him to an orthopedic surgeon after he couldn’t identify the pain. He took steroids and it didn’t help. Ortho Dr recommended surgery. My husband was hesitant because no one could tell him why the pain was occurring, they were just throwing strong meds and surgery options at him. Our neighbor is a physical therapist and ask him some probing questions, including what his exercise routine is. It turns out that the way my husband was working out at the gym with weights was creating the severe pain in his shoulder. The way he was positioned during pushups and those pully weights were stressing that joint/muscle/tendion area in his shoulder. As soon as he adjusted his positioning on the weights the pain disappeared in a couple of days. No surgery, no more steroids. My advice is to keep asking questions until they can tell you why it's happening and seek out a PT for another opinion. It saved DH a lot of expense and recovery time. Good luck!

I would suggest not going to a chiropractor until you see a back specialist. I believe in chiropractic but it is so very important that an xray/mri is looked at prior to them touching you or the chiropractor can do some serious damage. I have a bulging disk in my neck and a cracked disk in my tail bone as well as scoliosis so I know your pain! I highly highly recommend The Spine Team Texas. They are experts with the spine and can let you know if chirpractic is the way to go or some other way they can offer. They take most insurances and depending on your insurance it takes a simple referal to them. It may be a bit far for you as they are in Southlake but it may be worth it.
