I kept one of my granddaughters when she was that age, and I got most of my arts/crafts/learning ideas and activities from the internet. Try these websites - they are filled with wonderful ideas for children: www.crayola.com , www.dltk-kids.com , www.enchantedlearning.com , www.familyfun.go.com , www.kidsrcrafty.com , and www.starfall.com. All of these sites are completely free or have free sections. Have fun!

There are two great books: The Toddler's Busy Book(for 1 1/2 to 3 yr olds), and The Preschooler's Busy Book(for 3-6 yr olds). They are written by Trish Kuffner. I have the Preschooler's book and it is wonderful. They both include more than various crafts; they have homemade gift ideas, ideas about activities to do while on FREE outings, recipes for kids in the kitchen, rainy day ideas, household stuff to keep for use as craft supplies, household tips, educational crafts, help with preparing kids for school, and about a hundred other things that you would never think of! I got mine at Books-A-Million for $9.95, and I have also seen it at WalMart.com. My husband and I often refer to the book for family craft/outing/activity ideas that we even involve our teenage son in!
Hope this helps.

I have the busy books as well and they are good, but here is another idea for you. I keep most of the "junk" (mail-order) catalogs that come to our house. They are in a small stack in the living room, along with my kids' (ages 3 and 5)scissors (the "safe" kind that cut only paper!) and crayons. They also have glue sticks that they can get to. They know that they are allowed to cut, color and glue anything from that stack -- and some pretty creatives "crafts" come out of it. Sometimes they get pieces of scratch paper and glue the various pictures that they cut out of the catalogs onto it -- and occasionally, it gets mailed to Grandma and Grandpa, or left on Daddy's dresser for him to find when he gets home. When the catalogs get cut up too bad, I just throw them away -- there's always plenty more to replace them. (My kids particularly like the gardening ones with all the pictures of flowers and fruits and vegetables.)

That is a tough age for arts and crafts, but check out your local dollar store. They have many books like that, and they are cheap enough you can buy many!! Good luck and God Bless!
