I was thinking about getting some of those at home teeth whiteners but am not sure if they even work? Do they and if so, what brands and for how long do they work? Thanks!

I've used just about every whitener on the market...Crest strips, whitening toothpaste, a gel that comes in a pen you paint on your teeth, whitening rinses, and most recently, I have found a product I REALLY like the most. It is Plus White 5 minute Bleach Whitening gel. I apply it with a Q-tip to my teeth (fronts only, avoiding the gum line) and I have these fitted trays that I had from another whitening system that I use with this gel. To answer your question, yes all those teeth whiteners DO work but some are messier than others but most importantly, what I have found is that many of them are very difficult to keep away from your gum line. IF you have never used a whitener before, let me be the one to tell you to EXPECT tooth sensitivity. I have not read any of the responses to your question but I will say that tooth sensitivity goes hand in hand with any tooth whitener you choose. Which is why I say this: AVOID the gum line. The Crest strips are great but you will have a hard time avoiding that gum line.

The product I use recommends 5 minutes (longer for very stained teeth). For me, I apply it with a Q-tip directly to my teeth, I slip on the tooth tray, take a shower and by half way through my shower, I remove the trays and remove the gel. It is just long enough to bleach but not so long that I experience any discomfort. Trust me when I say this: if you bleach your teeth and feel discomfort, it will be so bad that you won't even want to talk. Just the air that hits your teeth when you open your mouth to talk is enough to make you cringe. I've tried Ibuprofen and Acetaminophen in hopes of alleviating the sensitivity but I have not found that either really works. Which is another reason why I bleach at night. At least most of my discomfort will occur while I'm sleeping and not during the day. I bleach my teeth often so I cannot say how long they work. They work as long as you use them. I get compliments all the time on how white my teeth are!

Crest White Strips! Look for a coupon in the Sunday paper, they always seem to have them. They work pretty good and I've done the whitening thing thru the dentist.

I've used the Crest White strips twice and always get great results. People can seriously notice how white your teeth are - and I even got a complement from my hygenist while getting my teeth cleaned! She was going on and on about how great my teeth looked. I giggled and said, "Crest White strips!" She was impressed. I highly recommend them!

I actually bought some on eBay (professional gel and plastic to make molds of your upper and lower bridges) and have had FANTASTIC results! I use it 1x a year now to brighten up - I drink a lot of coffee.

15 minutes a day for 2-3 days and you'll have bright whites.

I've had no issues with wearing down enamel (I've also had mine done professionally at the dentist in earlier years).

I'm not a fan of the strips. The gel just oozes off of your teeth when you salivate, and I haven't seen any significant results. I like the trays where you put the gel in each tooth mark and it's held in place when you put it in your mouth.

I have used the equate white strips, crest white strips, gel trays and they all work. Just be careful because using it alot it will start to wear your enamel off and once your enamel is gone its gone. So dont use them all the time. Im a RDA and the best is to go to the dentist and have them whiten your teeth even though it is alittle expensive. On my top front teeth at the bottom of the tooth you can see where my enamel is wearing off from where i used to always use the teeth whiteners but you cant tell up close you have to use a light to see it.

I totally agree Crest White Strips.. Also the Dentist reminded us to follow the directions and not to over use them..

He also said to use toothpaste that is ADA approved, a tube of whitening toothpaste when that runs out , then switch to regular toothpaste then back to whitening. This will help keep the whiteness, but not make your teeth sensitive..
