You know your child better. I too had a 14 month old daughter and was preg with my son. I didnt know what to do, as to buy another crib or get a single bed. SO I bought a single bed and figured I would try it. I put pillows on the floor, in case she rolled off she wouldnt get hurt (she never did), then i wondered how would I keep her in room when I was asleep, (i was very nervous), So I bought a gate for her bedroom door, ( i didnt want the door closed), so I would open her bedroom door and put the gate across the door. I put a baby monitor in her room, so I could hear her very well, I made sure there was no toys she could get hurt on if she got out of bed. I didnt put a dresser in her room at first, I was afraid she could get hurt on it, the only light in her room was the ceiling light, I didnt want anything in there she could knock down ( I told you I was nervous) This was my first child, I didnt know what to expect. But she did fine. She didnt fall out of bed, she never got hurt on anything. A pillow ~ I didnt give her one for quite awhile ( I was nervous), the blanket she used was a baby blanket. She had a favorite one. A spoon ~ I used the plastic covered baby spoons, from the time she was about 7 months, I would give her one and I would have one. I would feed her and she would try to feed herself too. At first it was a messy experience, but she learned to feed herself quite quickly. Good Luck.
