At What Age Would a Baby Benefit from Mommy and Me Classes?

I kind of want to take a Mommy and Me class with my 9 month old but I'm not sure that he would benefit from it at all because he's so young. Plus, he's in daycare so he gets plenty of socialization already. What actually goes on in these types of classes? Would you recommend? Thanks!!

What can I do next?

I say now is a good time to start! I wanted to start with my girl because she is in daycare 8-5 Mon-Fri and I wanted something fun for us to do together (especially when it was too cold to be outside). I tried Gymboree & The Little Gym--both were fun, but WAY too expensive. Then I found a local group "Bounce n' Boogie" that has Saturday classes! She's 15 months old and LOVES going! We also started going to signing classes (better late than never) which I love because she's not a big talker yet and actually does use signs! Shop around, ask for a "free trial" class, and eventually you will find something you both love. Good luck!

I took Mommy and Me swimming with my son starting at 9 months and loved it. It gave us time to play and bond. It was such a J. to see him get excited and giggle. And I met some moms with kids his age. I was given ideas to do at home...it was just fun for us.

The hospital where I had my son had 2 Mommy and Me classes. First one was for new born to 6 months old. Second one was for older than 6 months to 1 year old. I took my son from 2 weeks old till 12 weeks old and then my maternity leave was up and I had to go back to work. The classes are not so much for the babies as it is for the mommies to talk about their babies and the various growth stages they go through and to share experiences and knowledge. There was an RN who led all these classes and could discuss breast feeding and anything else that might come up. It was lots of fun. There are lots of different classes out there.

When my little girl was 9 months, we did some free infant classes at the Little Gym. It was great! I think the sign language was neat for me to learn (she was a little young for it at the time) for when she was ready, and the "gymnastics" they taught us really did help her start to crawl and walk and get a sense of balance faster. It may have just been timing, but it was VERY shortly after we started those classes that she started crawling and then walking and then running! :) Plus it was nice to have just "her and me" time.

But, as much as I liked those classes, I would NOT have done them if I'd have had to pay the $300ish they usually charge for a semester class.... :) They were fun, but not THAT fun... :)
