Attire for a Job Interview

I have a job interview tomorrow and have a question about what to wear. I live in Arizona, it's 100+ degrees out, is it advisable to wear nylons to a job interview? The interview is for an accounting job in a professional office. With that in mind I would think yes but this AZ most people don't nylons to work. I have a nice pair of open toe shoes to wear with my black skirt and blouse. If the verdict is that I should wear nylons, I'll have to go get new shoes tonight which I can do if I have to. What do you think, nylons are a must or no nylons are ok? Thank you!!!!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you all for the comments and well wishes. I have decided to wear the open toe shoes and no nylons. My outfit is conservative enough and my skirt to the bottom of my knees so I think I'll be ok. Thank you again!

If the people who already work there wear them, then you need them. Most folks here don't wear them, but at my mom's office (accounting for an industrial plant), it was REQUIRED.

I vote yes for the interview, because you don't know the culture at that office, and it's better to be overdressed for an interview than underdressed.

Based on the type of company you're interviewing with, I'd say wear the nylons, and a nice classic pump. No open toes for any interview. It's my opinion that you should over dress for any interview, despite what the current employees are wearing. For instance, the office that I work in now is VERY casual (jeans everyday, tattoos don't have to be hidden, flip flops are okay, etc.), but I still wore a professional outfit to the interview.

Good luck!

I am an attorney in AZ and most female attorneys do not even wear nylons to court. Skirt to the knee (or just above) is fine.

I would try to find out if they are a requirement first. But as long as you are dressed professionally and your skirt is at least knee length, I would not see it as a problem if you did not wear them. These days, most folks do not wear them anyways. Good luck!

I'm an accountant and I would NEVER wear open toe shoes to an interview especially if this is your first interview to get past HR. They may have a more conservative approach.

If in doubt call and ask what the appropriate dress code is for their office and go slightly more conservative than their standard.

I did do a second interview in a bright red, smoking hot suit and landed the job but that job wasn't a good fit for me. I stayed there for 5 years. Just an FYI.

You could bring them with you and change into them right before the interview and slip out of them right after. This is what I do with any heels because my feet stage a rebellion against heels.

Good luck! Hose are making a come back. I would call HR and see if there is a dress code.

I'm on the fence on this one. I know the accounting industry is very conservative so its better to be over dressed than under dressed.

Personally, I would wear them but that's me. I live in Houston so I totally understand the heat. =)

I live in the Deep South. Women don't wear nylons - we would die.
I have been on job interviews without them.
Or I suck it up and wear a pants suit.
And yes, I wear open toed shoes.

Nota Bena: I am considered a senior professional - and no-one seems to care that I don't wear nylons and my toes show. LOL

Good Luck on the Interview!!!!

Wear them and take them off right after you leave the interview. It is always best to be more conservative for an interview.

I was going to say no to the nylons, however it's best to err on the side of caution. For an interview it's certainly better to show up overdressed than underdressed. Good luck to you!

If you have time, can you call the HR office to see if there are any dress codes you need to be aware of before coming to the interview? Sometimes when in doubt (and I can get a hold of someone) I have asked.
GOOD LUCK!!

Probably a little late to respond, but my answer would be no nylons unless you have very pale legs.

Here's a suggestion--look for " Hose Without Toes".

When I was young I had a car with no AC I would put the nylons on in the car right before the interview and take them off again in the parking lot!

No one I know in any field wears hose anymore. Not even to church or dinner party's in winter time. They are just so out of style nowadays. Toss them all in the trash and be free!
