Aunt Flow Is on Strike... Help!

My period was due LAST Sunday, now we are on Monday and still no Aunt Flow. I usually alternate between a 28-day cycle and 31-day cycle and now I am on cycle day 40. I took a Walgreen's brand digital test on Wednesday and Friday and they were both negative. I thought maybe it was the generic thing so I took a First Response test on Saturday and still it was negative. Has anyone ever had a super late period with no pregnancy or a pregnany this late in the game that STILL showed negative on urine tests? What did it turn out to be? At what point should I call the doctor? I am only 26... so I'm pretty sure it's not "the change". :)

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Started my period on Friday night. I was 12 days late. Still not too sure why... but at least I started. Thank you all for calming me down during my confusing time.

I typically have regular 28 - 34 day cycles but once or twice a year I will have up to a 60 day cycle. I can't always identify the stressor, but I know there's got to be something going on that's just throwing me out of balance. I got pregnant on day 54 of this cycle, so I wouldn't worry to much, there are tons of reasons that your cycle could be off.

ANy big changes in your life...Any stressful times...Have you been ill or gained or lost a little weight? Any of these factors can change your cycle.
I had lost a large amount of weight and did not have my period for almost 6 months. The Doctor said that is not uncommon. A lot of things can trigger a change in your cycle.
If this is concerning you go see your OB/GYN as soon as possible.

I have experienced missed or very late periods almost once a year & I have heard that it is fairly common.

Hi R.,

I also have an irregular period, I have talked to my ob/gyn and she told me as long as I get at least 3 a year that is fine. I have not had one in almost 4 months. No I am not pregnant. I would call your ob/gyn to she what he/she might think. I don't think that you have anything to worry about. Good luck!

That happened to me in college...I was under a TON of stress...The doc gave me pills to start my period again and then everything was normal.

Have you been more stressed than usual? Started a new exercise program? Any major changes to your diet? All of those things can delay ovulation, which would make your cycle longer. Plus, if you're still breastfeeding your 10 month-old, that can make things irregular too. Either way, I'd give it 2-3 weeks and if AF still hasn't reappeared, you can re-test for pregnancy. I have always had long/irregular cycles - sometimes up to 3 months. But the times that I was pregnant I suspected right away. Pregnancy tests should detect a + about 12 days after you ovulate, if you're actually pregnant.

I wouldn't get too panicky. There are just times when our bodies can get a little out of sync. Changing jobs, surprise stressers in life. Recent losses. If it continues, go to the doctor, if you don't get it at all of course go to the doctor. Or if it does come and it is really different check it out. But one late time isn't the end of the world.
