I don't know about the school programs there, but I have a friend who probably does. However, I d know of a fabulous place in Stafford off 59. FOCUS Initiatives www.asdfocus.com She does ABA (which I don't normally approve of but Jaquelyn probably does a great job with it and social skills ect. Great place!

I am assuming you have contacted the Pearland School District? There's a website www.thehelpgroup.com that is listed in a book on autism by a Dr. Firestone. Check it out. You never know.

Specifically, I know nothing about the programs in PISD for children with autism but I have learned a couple of things from watching a friend go through this. One, the programs available through the school system are available to the child if your child lives there, if he goes to a school in PISD, or not, because YOU HAVE PAID FOR THESE PROGRAMS WITH YOUR PROPERTY TAXES. Two, the people who run these programs are professionals who have seen it all and THAY ARE READY TO HELP THE CHILD AS A MATTER OF ROUTINE, NOT AS A LAST RESORT. Thank God we live in a country where we can get specical help, that is, special help for special people. Good Luck in PISD.

Hi K.,

That's funny, I'm that friend that Sarah mentioned! I'm nearest to the Friendswood side of Pearland and my two children are "somewhere" on the spectrum. I homeschool our 12yr old and our daughter that just turned 8 is in a lifeskills program (She's PDD-verbal, just delayed pervasively)

There is a yahoo group that just got started to further the special programs in PISD. Several parents feel the school distric needs to do more for our special children. Alot of those special children are kids with autism. Kids needs breakfast...email me and we'll talk more.
