Baby Acne or Allergic Reaction

I know that all babies go through a "baby acne" stage, but I was just curious....is it really baby acne or an allergic reaction to something I ate (she's breastfed)??? My 4 week old's face and neck are both covered in little red bumps and her skin is rough to the touch. Could it possibly be a reaction to dairy, eggs, wheat, etc. in my diet? And is there something I can put on her skin to help clear it up...it's actually so bad, it's embarrassing :( Poor little girl!

What can I do next?

I have a 4-week-old as well. His birthday is June 12th. He has the acne bad too. I have no idea about reactions to something in your diet. I just wanted to let you know that I'm in the same boat and I feel for you. I have a 4yo, too, just not the 2yo in between. I think I'd go insane. I'll be interested in what people respond to this.

My son had baby acne very bad until he was almost 3 months old. We discussed it with our pediatrician many times and were told that there is nothing you can do it just has to go away on its own. It is not caused by anything you are eating (I was breastfeeding as well and asked the same question) it is from hormones that they get from you while still in the womb and it just takes a while for their little bodies to process it. Good luck and I promise it will go away soon.

Hello H.,

I'm not sure if it's acne or an allergic reaction. If it seems to be itchy it would be an allergic reaction.

I do know of a product you can put on either. It's called ABC Baby Line. It has a baby wash, baby lotion, baby oil and diaper rash cream. The diaper rash cream is actually great for stopping any sort of itching. Every ingredient in each product is pure, safe and beneficial.

My youngest daugther, now 6, has eczema and uses these products and it totally helps. Also, my 17 year old loves these products too.

Hope this helps!

Take care and God bless!

Unless it is itchy and bothersome to your little one, I would not put anything on it. For the first eight weeks of my son's life, his skin was bumpy/tough and he just didn't have that "baby smell" - he was a little gasie.... and just made me cry(my first born~ everything made me cry then). However, we did find out at his 2 month visit he was allergic to milk/dairy products and switched his formula from similac to isomil(soy) and within a week his skin was clear and had that baby fresh smell new moms just love! So all that to say...it could be a reaction to the dairy products in your diet.
