Baby Carrier???? - Granby,CT

I'm going back to work next week and am fortunate enough to have work with some wonderful ladies who are encouraging me to bring my little one with me :) The only problem is at 6 weeks old, the little guy is not interested in sitting in a swing or bouncy seat and pretty much just wants to be held when ever he is awake. I was thinking of getting some kind of sling so that way I can still have my hands free and actually get some work done. What carriers have you ladies used and what do you recommend? Thanks in advance for your input.

What can I do next?

I did this with #1 and #2 and just used a baby trends brand from Target. It is a less expensive version of the baby bjorn style carrier. I liked it because they were upright I could have visual (eye contact) with them as I typed and if they were awake, I would sometimes use the boppy on the floor for 15 min of tummy time here and there and use one of the over the head play mat style things for some visual interest for them. (also a boppy brand because I didn't have room for an elaborate play mat in my offices).
You are very lucky indeed:)

I liked our Bjorn for when DD was small, but the Ergo is more versatile when they are bigger. There's another one similar to the Ergo that a friend liked better. P-something. Sorry, I can't recall.

I got a bjorn off Craigslist for 20. It was worn but worked great for my high need heavy (16 pounds by 1 month) baby. I'm not thin around the middle or chest and it fit very good and was comfortable.

I hated the Moby I had and found it difficult to use and it was hot and didn't fit me right.

I like my Ergo carrrier too.

I liked the Nojo sling as it gave me a variety of ways to use it and I could use it from birth to 2 1/2 with my first born (the second didn't stay in it as long as she wanted to be out and doing her own thing). My son wanted to be held 24/7, so he was in the sling a lot and I found I could have him in it on my lap while I worked and he felt nice and snuggled without me having to hold him and him being on my lap took the weight off of the rest of me.

I LOVED my ring slings. My favorite one was made out of a heavy Tshirt knit. SO easy to use, just fugure out what position your baby is happy in and then tighten the sling up around them to hold them snug!

The moby wrap is great...unless you are large chested or plus sized, I am both and let me tell you I had a heck of a time getting it secured correctly. I had a snugglie that was more comfy for me, and easier to figure out with a sleep deprived brain.

I'd look into baby wrapping. I wrapped #2 and he slept for long periods of time and my back wasn't thrown out like it was with a bjorn or sling.
I'm also weary of slings only because unless you use them perfectly, they can be very dangerous. http://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/182256.php

Is there a good natural type baby store around you? I did a google search and came up with nothing! Maybe this woman can point you in the right direction: http://www.examiner.com/family-parenting-101-in-hartford/...
If you can get to NYC - metrominis offers free classes!!

And just read all the other responses - a Moby is a wrap! Just watch the youtube video and practice a lot! It can be a tad tricky (hence the suggestion of a class!)
Good luck!

I love my moby wrap. It can get hot but if the office had AC I would not think it an issue. I got mine on Amazon for a great price. Also I just got a sling from sevenslings. It is pretty comfortable and uses less fabric. If you plan on wearing it all day or for a long time the moby wrap is probably your best bet. Good luck.

I have a fitted sling that I bought from www.slinglings.com. I actually have 2, one for home and one for diaper bag. I like the fitted slings because you can hold them in a variety of ways as they grow and they hold up to 35lbs. I also like how easy it is to slip on and put baby in it. It's all personal preference so see the suggestions you get and look them up on You Tube to see it in action and you can determine if it's something you will like. They are not cheap so you want to make sure you are spending money on something you will be able to use easily.

I have an Ergo carrier for my 6 week old. She too is insistent on being held. I started out with the infant insert, but stopped using it after only a couple uses. She does just fine in it without it. I had to get rid of the bjorn because of lack of back support and the darn clasps were literally bruising my milk-filled breasts (I am pretty large). The Moby concept is good but I found it to be waaay too many steps to get on when you need to be able to do things immediately and one handed whenever possible. Plus it is very hot in the summer.

The Ergo puts the weight on your hips and shoulders very nicely. No more back aches. One downside, the straps come around under your armpits and I find it annoying how they rub under your arms. This doesn't bother other moms. The kindness to the back makes up for this though.

I highly recommend the Moby Wrap! Not only is it a one size fits all for mommies, but you can use it with newborns to toddlers. You can get them at target or babies-r-us for about $40 in a variety of colors and they also have organic ones for a little more $$$. It will seem a little intimidating at first, when you are facing a 6 foot long piece of fabric, however it does not take much time for you to get used to tying it on yourself and putting the baby in it. There are even videos on you tube so you can watch someone else show you how to do it! It secures your little one so well and you will have your hands free. Plus, it is snug and your daughter will actually feel as though your arms are wrapped tightly around her, keeping her safe. If your place of work is a more professional office, or you want the carrier to match your outfit when you are out, I would suggest getting the black one. My sister-in-law has one and when I first saw it, I didn't even realize she had it on (it looked like a black blouse)! Tying your baby on is how mothers in other countries have worn their baby for years and years, and with the Moby wrap, you are able to do the same here. It's great!
