When my daughter was born, the nurse put her footprints on my sons big brother t shirt. My question is how do I make them permanent? I haven't washed his shirt yet because he wants them on there. Anything I can spray on or wash in to set them?

What can I do next?

Take the shirt and have a rubber stamp made of the footprints. To do this you will need to photo copy the shirt. Then take the paper with the footprints somplace (such as office depot or Lobue's rubber stamp company) and have the them made into a rubber stamp. It may be that the shirt will not stay forever but you will have a nice set of your baby's feet to use in memory books or on baby shower gift cards, etc.

Spray them with hairspray before washing. I am a nurse and that is what we all tell our patients to do!! They may not last forever, but they won't wash off right away!

I'm not sure about that but you can take to some place that makes shirts with the designs on them and see what they say.I'm not sure where you live but if there is a Mall or Flea Market you can go there and ask them about it.

THis is prob what I would do first......if you want to preserve it as long as possible, I would wash the shirt, (if it is even dirty yet) inside out, in cold water, with woolite and just about a half a capful of vinegar, all handwashed. Maybe even a quarter of a capful of vinegar. The vinegar will prevent fading. THen I would lay the shirt out flat and allow it to dry completely. After it is dried, spray and saturate it with Scotch Guard, inside and out. Since it is obviously a special shirt to him, maybe you could have it heirloomed at the drycleaners, or even put it in a shadow box frame and hang it on his wall or the baby's.......

The footprint was such an excellent idea to put on a shirt! What a special memory!

Good luck with your project! Hope somethign works for you!

I agree with taking it to the cleaners and having it heirloomed. I wouldn't want to risk the little prints washing away! GL
