Baby Gate for Bottom of Stairs

I am having a problem finding a baby gate for my stairs. The opening is 59' wide. The other problem I have is that I have square, iron rod banisters on the staircase, so I need to find a gate that is compatible with this. Does anyone have any suggestions?

What can I do next?

Some friends of ours had this problem and they ended up getting a "pet-gate" at Petsmart or somewhere, for WAY LESS than the usual over-priced babygates. It's an adjustable-width, expandable kinda deal that you can move around (wood frame with coated wire mesh in the middle)- you don't have to install it anywhere permanently. We are going to look for one ourselves. They are designed to hold large dogs back so it should work for babies. ;)

I ended up just putting gates near the stairs between two walls. My husband didn't want us drilling into the banisters. It has worked out pretty well.

my suggestion would be to go to the one step ahead website, onestepahead.com they have a ton of different gates and things! Good luck, hope you find something!

hey K.,,
I had this same problem at my house with the stairs,, We got one of those expandable gates that fits several diferent sized stairweays and you dont have to use any tools or mark up your walls by using it,, i will have to check on the brand name ,, but i can let you know mm we have been able to use it all over the house in different spots since its soo versitile.. (SAfety First is the brand ,, i think)

MY son is now 18 months old,, and is now learning how to climb down the stairs,, hes already got down how to climb up them and love it!!
I hope this helps,
