I don't think a shower is out of line but since you have most of what you need I would opt for a meet the baby party. Most people will bring something for the baby. Congratulations and best wishes!
I moved away from home when I was about 3 months prego... so I never had a baby shower. My aunt was going to throw me one here, but that never happened (combination of not knowing anyone and I wasn't in a very happy place at the time... long drama-filled story...) But I am planning on going home for a visit in a couple months... My mom mentioned that I hadn't had a shower, and asked if I would like one. I think it would be a fun way to let everyone spend some time with my baby, since I would only be home for a week (and with a family my size, I won't have time to visit each individual family member.) My problem is, would it seem tacky to have one when she is already 2 1/2 mos? I really would like to have the baby shower, especially since my daughter is my first baby... I already have most everything I need (there are a few random things I don't have yet, and clothes are always good...) so I wouldn't want to ask for gifts (but wouldn't turn them down if offered :) lol. how would you go about this? would you go with a "shower" or just try to have a "meet the baby" party?

I agree with Jennifer...I wouldnt "ask" for gifts...but would find some cute invitations...not for a "baby shower" but just blank invitations to fill in the blanks...maybe you could put a note about "Guess who is coming to town and would LOVE to meet you!!" If your Mom wants to make some treats...or even a cake with a baby theme...go for it!!! I would just look forward to a chance to introduce your precious little girl to all of her family and friends. If they bring gifts...so be it..if they don't that is fine too!!!
a baby shower after the baby is born is often called a "sip and see" - like a mid-afternoon tea party type shower. someone could send out cute little invites, but i wouldn't include any mention of gifts - people will probably bring gifts though. good luck and have fun!
That's what we did. We didn't want to know what we were having, so I waited til AFTER she got here. And then I made sure that she was old enough and her immune system could handle being around alot of people before I would take her ANYWHERE. I believe she was 7 weeks old when my shower was finally held.
It's fine to have a meet the baby party after the baby is born, but I would not call it a baby shower. I wouldn't include registry information on the invite, but many people will bring gifts, I'm sure.
I don't think it would be wrong at all.........and I like the Meet the baby thing.......And it would be a great way to see everyone..........so do it! Be proud to show her off.....and just enjoy spending time with family...........you never need a reason to be with family...........
Good Luck and I hope things are much better for you now. Take care.
I like the "meet the baby" party - sounds perfect :)
heavens! have the party! i love the 'meet the baby' theme and honestly would stress 'we want your company not your gifts.' people will bring 'em anyway in most cases, but really emphasize how excited you are to share your baby with friends and family. what fun!

Call it a Meet the Baby party. Most people will probably end up bringing a gift anyway if they haven't already given you something.
I wouldn't cal it a baby shower but if asked aboud gifts then tell people what you need and let your mom know what you need too. Suggest winter clothes and spring/summer next year. People may ask sizes so think about them and where your baby is now. Let people bring gifts if they want but don't may a big deal if someone doesent know to bring one or can't. Let people know that gift cards are great if they ask. Good luck and have fun.
Yes-- a Meet the Baby Party! How fun! Enjoy!
A southern tradition (that doesn't happen as often now-days) is a sip and see. People often want to see the baby after its born and the parties are often more like an open house. It wouldn't be out of place at all and people will bring gifts if they want but aren't obligated at all.
I would agree if my mom wanted to call it a "Meet the Baby" party. :) Let your family and friends celebrate your new addition!
On the invitation, say something like: Your presence will be our gift.
Congratulations!
