D.K.
How about just skipping the games. I don't actually know anyone who likes them (let alone anyone over 30).
Much to my dismay, I'm in charge of a game or two for a friend's "after baby Baby Shower." After 5 miscarriages, she had, at 43, her fourth and final baby. Due to a lot of scheduling conflicts, and her health, our group decided to have a party after the baby was born.
So - I'm looking for some games for 16 (over the age of 30) women to play. Also, a couple of ideas for party prizes that aren't candles. I would like one game to include some basic supplies for the mother of a month-old daughter. This could include some little perks for mom.
Thanks. I look forward to your answers.
FYI for future responders, the reason I'm doing games at all is because I was the only one in the group of 14 who said "Uugghh - no games please" and immediately found myself volunteered (ha ha on me). In a good-natured way, I'm following through with my assignment. So far, I really like the idea of making something useful. Keep them coming.

Okay, I was going to say that too. I thought it was just me. I would skip them too.
Not a huge fan of the games at baby showers personally.
Why not try something like making a wish blanket for the baby. 2 pieces of material with batting in the middle. Many pieces of yarn around the blanket. Each person ties a knot in a bit of yarn while making a wish for baby. Make sure to have something nice to write them all down in. Think along the lines of when the 3 good fairies come to bestow their wishes to Sleeping Beauty.
Decorating baby clothes for the new baby was fun at my first shower. A bunch of white onsies, gowns etc and fabric markers, I would forgo fabric paints as those can dry a little hard and be irritating.
Think along the lines of practical instead of the usual try to remember as many baby items that were in the diaper bag or who can chug the most beer from the baby bottle the fastest (we had a co-ed party thrown and this was one of the games for the guys the host of the party had). Other games I remember playing at friends' parties were things like having to diaper a balloon with one hand, your spouse was allowed to hold the balloon still.
Since baby is already here people are going to want to fawn over baby more than play games.
I liked the guess the baby food game. 16 jars of unlabeled baby food unopened. Going by appearance only, match the correct jar to the correct food name (give a list of the 16 choices).
I would do the baby item memory game. Put a bunch of baby supplies on a tray, hold it out for about 5 seconds, and then have the women list as many of the items as they can remember seeing on the tray. Give the woman with the most correct listed items a small gift and the tray of goodies to the mom!
I find that no one really likes the games. They would rather just enjoy the moment! Visits with others etc.
At the baby shower my daughter had last year, we had 2 tables set up with supplies for making hair bows! That was the MOST popular thing at the party...
She printed out several suggestions on how to make the cute hair bows, had lots of ribbon (pre-curled for the corker type bows... very easy to curl), the little clips to clip onto the stretchy bands, small flowers, cute buttons and such, and 2 hot glue guns. (There were also some needles and thread in case people wanted to sew them together... and scissors, of course.) She ended up getting a huge supply of bows. Some were better than others, but they all looked really pretty nice.
We also played some games..... the baby food game we played had the food opened, and people could taste them if they wanted.....
Do the baby food jar game. Get a bunch of hard of baby food. Use a black market and label them 1,2,3 etc then make a master list so you know which jar is which. Take the labels off and have the guests guess what's in the jars. After the shower you can tape the labels back on and give to the new mom
I have used the gift bag game. You will need 10 assortment of baby shower gift bags and paste the following letters B -A-B-Y S-H-O-W-E-R(one letter per bag). Insert in each bag an item that starts with each letter. For example, in the first B bag - insert a bottle, the second - insert a jar of Apple Sauce, next B - insert a bib, and for the Y - a Yellow Duck and so on. Then the guests try to guess what is in each bag and the one with the most correct answer win the prize. I like prizes from Bath and Body Works , such as kitchen scented soap or hand sanitizers. Be creative and have fun. It also makes pretty decoration for a shower.
A pen/paper game - have a phrase from a popular kids book and then have the guest try and guess the book.

I hate baby shower games. I really don't like the baby food jar game. I tend to like pen-and-paper games best. You can do bingo, where everyone fills out a grid with what presents they think she's going to get. As she opens them, cross off the gifts and whoever gets bingo first wins a prize.
Another one is a celebrity baby name matching game. On one side of the paper you list a bunch of celebrities and, on the other side, list their babies' names (but not in order). Have the guests try to match up which baby goes with which celeb. You can put a couple of the most well-known (like Apple) on there, and a google search will bring up some good, lesser-known names (which is how I found out that Jermaine Jackson named his son Jermajesty).
