I think that you should ask for 3-6months, 6-9months and 9-12 months. Babies grow so fast that the infant size might only fit for 2 weeks unless the baby is a premie.

Hi,
I registered for my baby shower and I put some necessity clothing down. Pull over undershirts, bodysuits, side-snap undershirts, kimonos/gowns, footed-sleepers, etc.
My question is:
What sizes should I request?
People have told me that almost everyone will by clothing regardless of if I have it on my list or not, but they told me that most everyone gets infant size.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
T.
Thanks for the advice everyone. I did register just a little bit of clothing in different sizes. Mostly necessities. This way they have an idea of what I like and need.

I found that people tend to buy what they like in the size that they find it in. I had always heard that everyone bought tiny clothes for showers too, but at the shower I had before my daughter was born I received lots of 12, 18, and 24 month clothes but very little that was small. As it turned out, she is a small girl (19 months old and just starting to wear 12 month clothes), so I had to do quite a bit of shopping on my own after she was born. She wore newborns for 4 months! I would make sure to ask for at least some newborn and 0-3 month clothes. If your baby is big or you don't like what you are given, you can always return them or re-gift. It is nice to have some clothes that actually fit your newborn though. Also, you can't go strictly by the height and weight ranges given in the baby clothes. Babies, like the rest of us, come in all types of body builds. My 3 month old son weighed 2 pounds more than his sister and was 2 inches longer at birth, but he was still in newborn sizes for 2 months even though his height and weight put him in the 0-3 range. Best of luck with your new little one!
The thought never dawned on me, but a friend of mine told me to get the side snap undershirts for the baby so it didn't rub up against the cord. I would put a onesy on my girls w/just about everything - (extra protection for those explosive diapers!) As far as when I registered I put newborn thru 18 months. Some people use the undershirt/onseys & unionsuits (1 piece long sleeve & pants). Another thing that you can consider is even just having the baby in a onesy all day long if you are due in the summer. Not sure if you are having a girl or boy, but we decorated my girls'. I would go to the craft shops and get odds & ends for the collar or just in the middle of the onesy - I'd glue gun little flowers & stuff - for my nephew we bought a bunch of the iron on ducks & put them all over the assorted colored ones. Good luck!
I would say 3-6 months. You will most likely get all sizes, 3-6 months is safe, just in case the baby is alittle big for newborn clothing.
T.,
Congratulations on your pregnancy, when are you due?
I wouldn't put sizes, depending on how small or large your baby is you may have to return things. For example my girlfriend's baby was 10 lbs. and never got into newborn sizes and was only in a size 3 months for a few weeks so she returned all of the newborn cloths. On the other extreme my other girlfriend's baby was 4 1/2 lbs. when she was born and was in newborn and 3 months sizes for almost a year.
Hugs,
T.
I usually buy size 12 months for the shower gifts I get. The baby grows so fast and always has alot of 3to 6 month sizes.
Babies grow fast and out of their clothes in no time.
I'd suggest skipping the NB/newborn and even the 0-3 month size. If you have a "big" baby -- basically over 8 pounds or if his/her torso is on the long side -- those clothes won't fit. If you get 3-6 month and larger, even if you take off the tags and wash things before your baby is born, you'll have no worries about the clothes being too small.
PS: I found footed sleepers to be a bit awkward since new babies kick so much; their little feet often got caught up in the leg portion, not down in the foot part. Instead, we used sleeping gowns for the first few weeks (which make day and nighttime diaper changes a breeze), and for my newest baby (who is 2 months old, 14 pounds and has a VERY long torso) we're using kimono tops and a sleep sack at night. That is keeping him comfortable and warm, and again makes diaper changes a lot easier. Rather than deal with blankets for swaddling, consider getting a Swaddle Me set from Halo (who also makes basic sleep sacks); they're wonderful, and the swaddle piece is removable once your child no longer needs it or if he/she doesn't like it.
Congrats and enjoy this amazing time!
Hi T., Congratulations! Unless you know you are having a very big baby, I would ask for some size 0-3 mos some 3-6 mos. and even 9-12 months. Baby uses undershirts all year long and the onsies can be used as outfits in the summer on hot days. Best wishes, Grandma Mary
Hi T.,
First of all, congrats!!! It's true a lot of people do purchase clothes and other necessities; diapers, lotion, desitin, etc. There are 3 sizes I'd suggest, because they grow so fast!
They are: newborn, 0-3 months, and 3-6 months. I hope you find this helpful :-)

Register for one outfit in each of the sizes from newborn-2T. Just so people see what styles you like.
Then expect to get 5 million newborn outfits that aren't on your registry! :) But that's ok- you can't blame mamas for buying stuff they think is cute!
I asked for 9-12 months. This way you has clothes for the future. Like you said they are going to buy wht they want anyway, but give your self a fighting chance!!!
Hi T.,
Register for all sizes of layette items, but don't open all of the newborn items til your baby is born - if you have a 10 lb baby, he may not need to wear the newborn items.
Most people if left on their own do but newborn size clothing, so don't take the tags off, and exchange for other things if you get too much. For outfits, the reason that many people buy newborn is that it's the clothing that's in season NOW. If you're having a summer baby, you don't need 6 to 9 month rompers, and they don't have overalls and courderoy pants and long sleeve shirts in the stores at this time of year. This is why you get mostly newborn sized outfits. Hopefully people will include gift receipts and you can exchange things.
Good luck
I have put 3 to 6 months because they grow so fast it not even funny. I received most of the sizes I asked for. :)
Any clothing I registered for was 6 months plus. It is true you will get alot of smaller infant clothes at showers and when baby is born (cause the the little stuff is so darn cute!)
They grow out of newborn 0-3 mo. pretty quickly. Put 3 - 6 months and 6 months- you can also ask for medium and or large.. not newborn. good luck.. If you get alot of newborn or 0-3.. bring some back..
If you want it on your registry, then I would put size 3m up to 18 or 24m. We didn't register for any clothes, but got a lot. It was great to have a stock of bigger clothes. When our daughter started growing out of one size, I had a pile of the next size to take out and wash. We received clothes up to 24m and we really appreciated it.
Good luck.
Both my kids were born into 3-6 mo size clothes, so I agree with the previous poster who recommended keeping everything in original packages until they are needed.
Hi T.
Congratulations on your pregnancy and I hope you have a wonderful time at your shower!!!
It is such an exciting time for you!!It seems that the answer should be real simple, right?
Well, yes and no....
You have to think of the time of year your baby will be born...summer or winter.
That determines the kinds of onsies and pj's etc. The best way to go about it is to think if your baby will be 6 months in January, then ask for long sleeve onsies in 6,9 nad 12 months. (Depending on where you live, it makes sense to get them even in 12 months b/c spring may come late or you may have a big baby and may need the extra sizes. Anything newborn is pretty much a waste in my opinion. They usually grow out of newborn things within a few weeks, so perhaps 0-3 months is a better choice, always plan that your baby will be in a size just bigger than what the age is. This way you will get more use out of them.
Believe me, you really should spend your time putting things other than clothing on your registry.
You are going to get tons of clothes in all sizes....But if you want, you can make a special request for clothes 12-24 months also.
I would just relax about the clothes. Women LOVE to buy baby clothes so you will get what you need and plenty more.
You will feel badly b/c your baby may not even wear all the outfits and then will be too big for them.
Concentrate more on your stroller, car seat, soothing gliders, bouncers, exersaucers etc. They are expensive, and it will be so much appreciated if your family and friends help you out with them.
Have an absolute wonderful shower and just ENJOY it all.
It goes by real fast.
But then there is all the fun of going through everything again and again and setting things up too!
Best wishes,
P.
Hi there and how are you doing today. We recently had a baby girl, she is three years old now, and my wife unit was giving her a baby shower, I told her to informed them that she don't want any baby clothing or toys, she ask why. This is my explanation to why. Usually everyone bring the same stuff, or too small, too big, and most of the time you cannot return it and you are stuck with them, what I told her was to tell the organizer to inform them to bring gift cards instead, that way yo can get what you need and avoid unwanted stuff. She didn't and we were stuck with plenty of baby clothing that didn't fit, because she was over 6lbs at birth,so the little clothing didn't fit. Some hate to give gift cards , but it is the same, because it is all in good faith, giving to a birth of a new born. That is where I stand on baby showers gifts. Think about it, most gift cards are good for a year, but the clothing that don't fit last for a week or so. Get with the organizer and see what they say, M..
i registered for various onsies and gowns mostly sizes 00-3 months and 3-6 months. most of the clothes i received did not come from my registry :) but when i went to the store (BRU) to purchse the remaining items from my registry, you get a discount. so...that's mainly why i put clothes on my registry. also, i have a HUGE family and just wanted to give lots of choices for gifts.
You may also want to register for some swaddle blankets by Kiddopotomous. They are the only good brand I think. There was no way my son stayed in a swaddle I tried to do with receiving blankets. As for sizes you can register for onesies in newborn, 1-3, and also 3-6. Same thing for clothes. I would mostly register for the first two since if people get 3-6 month clothes then its usually outfits they pick out rather than neccesities like gowns, feetie pjs, ect. Don't neglect newborn stuff because unless you have a pretty big baby, the 0-3 will be enormous. My son wore the newborn stuff for almost a month and he was 6 lbs, 14 ounces and 18 1/2 inches when he was born. If you get too much of something just return it. Babies r us does not penalize you for a lack of receipt. The only thing they do is that if you return without a receipt, you have to do your shopping that day and can not just get a store credit and come back. That's the way they do it here in NJ, not sure about your store's policy.
ask for no bigger than 6 mos. babies clothes are outgrown fast, and are very seasonal. so if people buy you 6-12 (or bigger) mos sized stuff now, all they can buy is summer stuff, but it will be winter by the time your baby gets into that size, and the clothes will be useless to you. so don't jump too far ahead, or you'll be doing a lot of trips to the store to return stuff. Also, not sure where you are registered, but if it's BabiesRus, make sure you get receipts from people. They have recently stopped accepting returns without receipts, it's a real pain in the neck, as you may end up with a bunch of ugly/misfit clothes you don't need, but can't return.
Definately register for sleep-sacks (sleeveless or with long sleeves), those are great! Register for diapers, it's one thing you will NEVER have enough of.
good luck!
Congratulations!
Register for the slightly larger sizes - 9-18 months. People will buy outfits in the smaller size. After all - who can resist those cute little things?
But - do not remove the tags and wash everything. Wait to see what size you baby is - and how quickly they grow. Plan to return whatever doesn't work and get the sizes that you need. Besides - if you are due soon, you won't need as many things in the summer (like footed pj's.)
Best wishes!
I did not register for any clothing, but I did receive some. We do not know the sex, so people are typically less inclined to buy clothing.
I also heard that clothing is just one of those things that people will buy, even if its not on your list, so that is why I left it off the list, along with bibs, burp cloths, and receiving blankets. Its more important to get what you really need, i.e. swing bouncer highchair, so that is why I didn't include any clothing.
I did get some already, of each size too. If you know the sex of your child, it would only make me more inclined to leave off any clothing, especially if it is a girl, people can't resist buying cute girl clothes.
Register for 3-6 months b/c people will be 0-3. Here's the thing... keep all the tags on and don't wash things until you need them! We did not put any clothes on our registry and ended-up returning $300 worth to Babies R Us and getting extra "gear".
Baby clothes are cute so people can't resist. You end-up with more clothes than you need and they outgrow them very very quickly!
Congratulations and enjoy your shower!
It's really hard to say. I got SO much summer clothes in 3-6 and 6-9 month size that I NEVER used. My daughter was born in June and only fit 0-3 months the whole summer. And she was 8 pounds (not tiny). I know people say get bigger clothes, but mine are all still in the closet 2 years later with the tags on. Too bad I am having a boy this time....
So my advice.... keep the tags on. You can always return, re-gift, or wait for another kid. Only take tags off as you need them.
I recommend getting few 0-3 and 3-6 month items initially because you don't know how quickly the baby will outgrow it. Keep the receipts and don't open everything at once. You will likely not use 1/2 of the clothes you get and could always exchange them for diapers which you will need.
