Anyone suggestions on the best baby slings out there. I have tried the Maya Wrap (hard to use) and the New Native (hard to use). Someone suggested the mama kangaroo to me so I might try that or a Hotsling. Just wanted to see if anyone else had one that they loved. Thanks.

I LOVED my Ergo baby carrier and used it all the time until my son was 2. I had some back problems after child #2 and this carrier really helped keep me in line. It's a little pricey, but worth every penny.

I am a self-professed sling guru, so I will offer my opinion here, and also would point you to www.thebabywearer.com for product reviews.

I personally have 3 slings - a Storchenwiege wrap-type sling, a Kangaroo Korner fleece pouch, and a Bali Baby Breeze wrap-type sling. They are each good for 3 different things, and I would choose a single one of these depending on what my primary use was gonig to be.

Storchenwiege - I love LOVE the wrap slings. Some people find that the learning curve on these is steep but this sling is beautiful, comfortable, versitile, and once you get the hang of it putting it on is like learning to tie your shoes - it's a little complicated at first but you don't even think about it after a little while. I like this especially because you can put most of the weight on your HIPS as opposed to your SHOULDER. This is great. Fabric has just the right amount of stretch. Will carry your baby until he/she's 40 lbs or more and then you can make it into a hammock. Can carry front or back or on your hip. Comes with a great instructional DVD and book.

Bali Baby Breeze - basically the same as the Storchenwiege except that it's very lightweight gauze. Beautiful but not as soft or stretchy. Great for summer when it's just too warm for the Storch.

Kangaroo Korner pouch - I just bought this a couple months ago after using my sister's. It's super fast and easy to put on and off. Great for in/out of stores and shorter walks. Only goes over one shoulder so it does get a little heavy feeling after a while, but it's very warm and snuggly for my baby. He loves to nap in it and likes that he can sit facing forward and see everything. Great for cooler weather when you don't want his legs to hang out. My sister has been carrying her now 3-month baby in her fleece pouch since he was a week old. They *claim* that this can be basically used year-round though I'm not convinced. We'll see.

If you go for a pouch type sling, I would highly recommend the KK ones because they're adjustable, unlike most pouches. Both my husband and I can share all of our slings.

I use/have the hotsling. My son, who is now 9 months, won't tolerate it much now but we used it a lot the first 4 months. I wish he still like it. I like that it fits your size and you can do atleast 4 different holds with it. I also like that you don't have to tighten it or anything else. It is also small enough to throw in the diaper bag. Plus they have cute patterns :)

I agree with Karen about EVERYTHING and 2nd the kangaroo korner pouch-- fleece. I LOVE mine. Also love the mei tei carriers and swear by my moby (although there is a learning curve on learning to tie it!)

I'll throw in another vote for the Kangaroo Korner adjustable fleece pouch. We used it with our daughter from birth and it was amazing. Because it's adjustable, my partner and I could both comfortably wear it, and even transfer a sleeping baby back and forth or into the crib. It really does work for year-round use. We lived in North Carolina when she was born (I hear you about missing the warm weather!) and used it from April all the way through the following spring. We've also given pouches (both fleece and cotton) to several friends for shower gifts and they've all loved them.

Good luck!

Highly recommend the Premaxx Baby Bag. It comes in a couple sporty colors like Red & Orange and Gray, Black & White. Really sturdy--I didn't use it much when our twin daughters were infants (they didn't want to be in a sling or when I tried), but I occasionally use it now when I know that one of my daughters (now 2) will want me to carry her (e.g. at the grocery store sometimes!, pumpkin farm, etc.) I can only hold her for so long and if she's in the sling, I can carry her longer. She's basically on my hip and I can even use both my hands for something if I need to. Its been great for when she's clingy--when she's sick.

Good luck, G.

I like this one a lot. Good luck. I ordered it on-line as I never see them at say, Babies R' Us.

I will vote for Baby Bjorn the new model with lumbar suppport. Its little expensive and worth the price. I have carried my baby for 2 -3 hrs at stretch with my back intact.

Good Luck!!

there is a store in chicago called Be By Baby that has a bunch of slings and people to help fit you - even a sling wearing class(on Lincoln, near Paulina stop - brown line el). i have a hotsling and my 3/5 mo. old loved it when smaller. i'm saving it to use it when he's older and i can have him on my hip. most of the other responses don't take into account the double slinging. my nursing twins support group did a test with a lot of choices and found the lightweight slings (like mama kangaroo) the easiest to double sling with. I have used mei tei and ergo to wear one of them and love being able to put the baby on my back.
