First you must remember it took 9 months to put on the weight and it will take at least 9 months to take it off. I just had baby #4 6 months ago and I gained 50 lbs that i will acknowledge in public. I was at 200lb at birth and now down to 155lb. I BF and you can NOT diet. At 3 months i was ready to get out of the blubber body that baby had left me. I am have not worked out. No time with 4 chidlren. Things are not as tone as they were in the past. The great thing is that it is not swimsuit season now and you can always wear things that play down the extra weight. Reality is that people that you meet will have no idea what you looked like before and just comment on how great you look like now after just having a 3 month old.

Hi, B.!

I don't know if you're breastfeeding or not, but my experience with both my kids is that the weight wouldn't budge until I weaned them. Some moms lose it faster bfing, but my midwife said others don't! I walked with them in a stroller or a backpack everyday to stay healthy--they love it too. Then when my daughter weaned, I was able to cut back my intake and the weight came right off. I'm weaning my son now and have dropped ten of my thirty pounds.

The other moms have great suggestions, too. Good luck!

I gained a ton of weight when put on thyroid medicine. Doctors have gave me pills and diets to try and nothing worked. We just started going to a new doctor last month and he told us to follow the diabetic diet. We got weighed last Friday and after three weeks we have lost seven pounds each. It's really easy to stick to because you eat something five times a day. You eat a big breakfast, 10:00 snack, medium lunch, 3:00 snack, small supper, 9:00 snack. I am allowed 4 carbs for breakfast, 1 for 10:00 and 9:00 snack, 5 for lunch, 4 for supper and 2 for 3:00 snack and am allowed 2,000 calories a day right now. Later he wants me to go down to 1,500 calories a day. Also we started walking every other day. This is the first weight loss program that my husband has actually lost some of his belly. If you want to know more you can contact me or go to Dr. Gimness in Plant City. He says this is not a diet but a change in life style. You will be amazed at what all you can still eat. We are never hungry. You actually find yourself drinking more water and that's always a good thing. We have a 1/2 cup sherbert for 9:00 snack or a low carb ice cream bar. Good Luck!!!!

Hi B., I know what you mean about losing the "baby weight" and before the holidays. 13 years ago, I gave birth to a 10lb 9oz boy. I was 150lbs (toned and muscle). My weight at birth was 210lbs. I did alot of walking was able to lose 40lbs. by christmas. In 1998 I got down to 170lbs and gave birth to another 10lbs 9oz boy, gained 30lbs and now 9 years later I am 140lbs., back in a size 8 and a size 7 in shoes. Not as toned as I was back in the early mid 90's but I am getting there. I exercise with my 9 year old autistic son, we go walking alot. We live in a townhome so there are stairs to climb (exercise). I also have free weights, exercise bench. Plus I am on the go alot(I am part of the PTSA at my older sons' middle school, just graduated, got my associates degree in medical billing, take my kids to therapy 3 times a week, Avon Representative, stay at home mom.
My advice to you is put your daughter in the stroller and walk. If you live in Tampa, the weather is great! Get out there and walk. Exercise at home, use your daughter as I weight. Put her on the bottoms of your feet, while on your back, hang on to her hands and go up and down-she will love it and you will get toned, strength in your legs and it will help with your abdomen. Get some free weights(5lb dumbbells), hold them in your hands and go up and down. It will help with sagging boobs (if you have sagging boobs) and help with the tricips. Do curls with them, this will help with your biceps. I do this at least 3 time a week. Involve your children, son too. Just eat what you normally eat. I buy lots of yogurt, fruit cups, fresh fruit and veggies and try to stay away from beef as much as possible. I bake most of my food and steam my veggies. I also do yardwork.
Well, that's my advice. Hope this helps!!

Well I cannot tell if you are BF or not, if you are its great for losing weight, they help burn 500 calories per day.

I utilized the diet given to me when I developed gestational diabetes. I continued it, even while breastfeeding, because it was safe for the baby while I was pregnant.

You eat 6 small meals a day. At the 3 normal meals, you get 45 carbs. For the 3 small snacks you consume 15 carbs

ie
Breakfast: 45
snack: 15
Lunch: 45
snack 15
dinner: 45
snack: 15

all meals should be about 2 hours apart, this helps keep your blood sugar regulated and working for you.

Carb counting: apple = 15 1/2 banana = 15 green stuff is free, meat is free, pasta and rice avoid like the plague :) I was told that ppl who cannot give up pasta and rice wind up being Type 2 diabetics. You can probaly google carb values in food.

Its good to pair carbs with protein, especially quick carbs like fruit. It slows them down and makes you feel fuller longer. Ie an apple w/pnut butter.

Eat healthy and sensibly. Keep the junk out of the house. Get rid of all sodas. Actually, water alone is really best. Even juice is high in carb values.

Doing this, I lost my baby weight and then some. The heaviest I got was 245 (i am 5'11). I am now at 160. Prior to being pregnant the first time I was 185.
I am lighter, healthier and loving it.

Hi B., I am a personal trainer and I just wanted to let you know that you do have to be patient but the best thing you can do is move. Take your baby for walks everyday. I took my baby for an hour walk almost everyday until I was confident enough to leave him at the gym's babysitting room. I lost a lot of weight doing the walking and I ate lots of small meals. Increase fruits and vegetables. Limit processed foods. Make sure breads are whole grain. Limit desserts to a few times a week. I actually eat chooclate everyday but no more than 1 oz (which is hard for many people to do so I don't suggest it unless you have good self control!) And most doctors will say it will take at least 9 months to a year to get back to "normal" after having a baby. So enjoy your baby boy and do your best to lead a healthy lifestyle.

I put on a lot of weight with my first child and the best I could do was go on Nutrisystem. That was great because I didn't have to cook/plan any of my meals. My husband did it too so there was no cooking for a month or two. For the first month the meals were great, after that, I did get tired of them. I think there's other mail-order programs with meals like that but I liked the Nutrisystem one.

Also I got workout videos from Beachbody.com. They have great home workout videos/programs. Slim in Six is a really great/effective video but hard and not that much fun. My favorite is Turbo Jam because it's more fun.

Good luck!

Before I was pregnant I weighed 135, when I gave birth I was 172 pounds. I been drinking Mummy magic weight loss tea for the past 3 months since march 29th and I am finally 135, I had a hand belly because I had a c section so I was also trying to bring that back in and this tea made it possible as well. I even workout from home I don’t go to the gym at all.

Hi B.!!

Congratulations on your baby!! I am going to second going to Weight Watchers. It is where I lost the baby weight, 50 pounds just like you. I did it over the holiday season. Weight Watchers offers great support during the holidays. But I also like that they don't necessarily teach you not to eat. They teach you how to enjoy the holidays and still lose weight.

Also a GREAT workout is with StrollerFit. It's like a playgroup and a workout wrapped into one. Visit strollerfit.com and scroll to the map and keep clicking on the map until you get a list of classes. There are classes in both Tampa and St. Petersburg. In St. Pete the instructor Christie is AWESOME!!

Just nursing your baby on demand should help take off a lot of weight. And give yourself a break :-) Just try to enjoy the holidays and enjoy your baby. Get a baby sling and get out and walk whenever you can. In a few months when she can sit up on her own, try a jogging stroller or a baby bicycle trailer. Your baby can enjoy the ride while you get some exercise. Keep junk food out of the house, so you won't be tempted to eat it. Good luck!

Its not easy but you have to have discipline especially with eating- (unless your breastfeeding!)small meals more frequently and watch your portions (measure things if you have to) And of course exercise, walk in the park, around the block with the baby-if you are home grab some free weights and just work out for 20 minutes even-do a workout DVD while baby is asleep. It does take time I have a 10 month old and it probably took a good 7-8 months. Its not easy, but it is achievable-the old fashioned way (diet & exercise)

Be patient with your body. It takes a year for you to feel yourself again. Enjoy your curves at the moment. Your children love them :) Do you nurse? Sometimes more fat is needed to make good breast milk. Here are some of my tricks though as I'm now one year after baby #3.

Drink water with fresh lemon squeezed every day. Natural diuretic. Drink "unsweetened" cranberry juice every morning and every night. Just a small cup. I add to this sugar-free Metamucil to clean my gut. You'd be amazed at how much is impacted in our intestines. The cranberry juice then cleanse your entire blood, liver and of course tones the urinary tract. Avoid sugar and breads. Whey protein drinks (avoid soy) are also good with yogurt and fruit every morning. I find eating many small meals is best for metabolism, so find healthy snack food and have items easy to prepare like a chicken already roasted or pre-cut veggies. Of course, take that baby walking in the stroller or find mom/baby yoga classes like at www.yogani.com.

I do not know if you are nursing, but if you are you should not be concerned about the weight. You need to eat often, and healthy so that your body produces enough vitamins for the baby.

With that being said.... I have done the Atkins book, and eaten whenever I was hungry and lost a lot of weight. It is hard when you are doing it through the holidays because no baked goods. Weight Watchers is also great because you can indulge in treats once in a while, but you count points. Good Luck, and Congratulations on the baby.
