Baby Won't Take a Bottle! - Jacksonville,FL

My baby is just over 3 months old and breastfed since birth. She was given (literally) a handful of bottles of formula & pumped milk during her first month when I was ill. During her 2nd month, my husband gave her a few bottles of pumped milk. It was never with any kind of consistency. Now suddenly over the past month, she has refused to take pumped milk from a bottle. I've tried during outings and ended up having to breastfeed because she wouldn't, which is proving problematic since I also have an active toddler to keep up with. She won't even take it from my husband now.

I'm looking forward to a girl's night out, but won't be able to if I can't figure out how to get her to take a bottle. I've been using Dr. Brown's and we changed the nipples to the 3 month sized. She took these fine those times before, but now she screams & screams and tries to spit it out. Or if she is calm, she just sort of chews the nipple like she has no idea what to do it, but won't drink from it.

Please help!

I had the same problem with my daughter. She refused just about every bottle out there. My husband wanted to feed her but she refused any and all of the bottles. We even went to the store and bought 1 of each different bottle. She ended up skipping bottles altogether and going to a cup.
Now she will only drink water, no juice, no milk! I think she gets this from her daddy...He's really picky :)

Just wondeing if you are in the room when your husband is trying to give the bottle. My youngest would only take avent bottles from my husband when I was out of site.

Sorry this is so late, but I did experience this with my daughter. It was almost like she wouldn't take my milk from a bottle, but she would take formula from a bottle. So we ended up giving her primarily milk from the breast, but my husband would feed her formula. I think she could tell it wasn't really mommy and rejected the idea that we were trying to fool her.

Hopefully, it will get better. Good luck!

I have a 2 month old baby too that I am breastfeeding, and I notice sort of the same trend happening. It's the break of the illness and the comfort of your nursing that has the baby confused. No nipple like mommy's nipple, so my suggestion would be to nurse as much as you can to get baby comfortable with the idea that you haven't "left" her, then slowly introduce the bottle again with breastmilk and then formula if you so wish. It's an emotional thing going on versus physical hunger need. My son did that once or twice and the above got him back in sync. I also have a 3yr old pre-schooler, and work outside home, so I understand the frustration- because for me it is necessary to have him take a bottle for when I go out to work and my husband has him at home.
