Hello all!

I am looking for a babysitter 1 day a week (Tuesday) between the hours of 10:00 am and 4:00 pm in our home. This will be for a 2 month old baby boy.

I work from home, so I would be here the entire time if something where to happen, but I will be with clients and unable to feed him every couple hours or change diapers.

What would you pay a baby sitter in this situation?

Also if there are any babysitters available, please let me know! : )

What can I do next?

The pay would really be determined by how much work it is. Is your baby a good napper? Is he going to be napping from 9-12, and 2-4? In my book, that'd be less pay, unless they did some work around the house while the baby was napping. There's always a lot to take into consideration. I live in a rural area, have 3 kids, and pay my babysitters $8/hr. If they drive themselves I give them $5 on top of that (depending on gas prices, not per hour). If they pick up the house I pay them extra too. They get called back if they play with my kids, teach them new things, etc (not just plopped in front of tv). If the sitter is there during the day and has to fix them lunch, snacks and play, I pay a little more. If the kids are in bed already and just need someone there, I pay a little less.

I agree with $10 - 15 an hour. If you want good care, you need to be prepared to pay decent money.

Also, you will need to consider your 'payment' plan for when the sitter is sick and when you are on vacation.

My sitter who works out of her own house is paid a weekly amount, regardless if my child is sick or does not attend. She is also paid a 1 week vacation. When I take a vacation, she still gets paid.

I would probably pay $10-15/hour, depending on how much experience the person had and whether they were an adult or a teenager. If the hours are really going to be 10 - 4, without ever asking for overtime, you could also agree on a set amount for the day - maybe $75-80 total.

the younger the child .. the more experienced the babysitter needs to be.. so for an infant this young.... you need an experienced sitter not a teenager.

so I would pay 10-12 an hour.

I would pay a babysitter in this situation whatever the going rate for babysitters is. You need to work and you need childcare but it's the same amount of time out of her life whether you're there or not. I had a full time nanny when my twins were young; I worked from home but there was no way I could do a full time job and watch two infants (or even one). I think I paid her $14/hour four years ago.
