what do you pay your babysitter or what do you charge for babysitting?

Hi moms. Ok so i haven't babysat (for money) in ten years or so. When i was in highschool during summer break i babysat three kids for 100 dollars a week, yes 100 dollars. back then to me, a highschool kid, 100 was wow. this was part time. Now, I will start babysitting a 3 month old but I have no idea what to charge or what people charge to babysit newborns/infants? do sitters charge minimum wage or how do i go about this? i will only be babysitting, no cleaning, no cooking, etc etc.

What can I do next?

I pay $60 a day, I work 12hr shifts and it's not everyday, some weeks it's 2 or 3 days... I take her @ 630am n pick her up @ 745ish... My baby is 6months n has been going to her sitter since she was 3months. Her sitter is a family friend n just watches her, so it's not a daycare place...

Babysitting? Daily? How many hours?

Are you going to be acting as a nanny?

All considerations-

Babysitters in my neck of the woods get $10 plus meals provided.
Nanny/In-home care providers can get up to $250 a week depending on the neighborhood.
Licensed care providers can get $15+ an hour.

Best luck-

Think about this.. a daycare would charge $50- $90 a day (9 hours). Depending on where you live.. if you are supplying food, wipes and diapers you need to factor that in. If not.. then you can lower your rates.

Ask around in your neighborhood/markets. Do you have to travel to their home? Do they drop the child off?

$100 a week seems low for a 50 hour week, jeez.. I would pay you $180 - $200, and if I were to supply food and diapers and wipes, I would give $150 a week.

Good luck.

Babysitting full time while the family is at work?? That's almost 50 hours/week if this is your situation but that is more like daycare. Will you have additional children as well? You asked about "babysitting" so I think $10 - $13/hour is reasonable. That is more than minimum wage but doesn't matter, are you claiming this on your taxes (but minimum wage in CA is $8/hour)? It also sounds like this will be the ONLY baby you are taking care of...$2.00 - $2.50/hour does not cut it for an only child in your care (especially in Southern California). I don't get how some moms want to pay $20 - $25/full day, those prices are so 1990. At those prices you could work two part time days as a hostess in a restaurant, make more and be done with your week. I expect anybody that would be taking are of a baby/child to be CPR/first aid certified, that's a given. As soon as my niece came into our care, we enrolled in another class, it had been a while.

it will vary a lot depending on your area. what we pay here probably has nothing to do with what you would charge lol. you're in san diego! i'm in kansas lol. but for what it's worth i paid $135 for someone to watch my son (in their home, and she was licensed) 5 days a week. and this was super cheap for our area. you'd probably do best to get on a local forum or craigslist or something and try to see what rates are. maybe even call around posing as a prospective client and 'price check'.

I charge $50 a day for 1 kid and a family with 2 pay $75. I suppy food and occasionally they will bring some snacks or a bottle of juice. They supply diapers and wipes. I use wipes suring the day to clean hands so I supply them and I usually have extra diapers on hand just incase someone runs out. I also dont have a time but they are my friends children and one is 730-430 and the other 8-5or6. I dont know what the rate would be for your area though.

I would pay you about $150 a week for that. If you are not licensed, it makes a HUGE difference. I still think today that $100 a week is pretty fair. I pay my licensed provider $100 a week for my kids in the summer - per kid.
