Please let me know how it goes. I get so frustrated w/ teenage sitters. I basically feel like "I shoudn't have to baby-proof my house for my babysitter!"
Hi all,
I am losing my babysitter as she is a senior and is graduating in a couple of weeks followed by plans to move away for college this fall. I've been testing out new babysitters in my neighborhood or friends of friends daughters but so far, these girls coming to my home just don't have common sense like my current one I have and it's annoying because I don't teach common sense. I'm starting to toy around with the idea of using a sitter service but it freaks my husband out. Has anyone ever used a sitter service? What was your experience and do you recommend it or not?
Thanks!

Sorry your losing your sitter. It is hard to find a good sitter when they are being compared to a former sitter. This has happened to a few of my friends and they tried professional sitters but found out that the majority of the ladies were older without patience; granted there are youngers ones without patience too. Needless to say our daughter does alot of babysitting for them because they have high expectations and needed someone that could comply with the rules that they trust and kids like. Our 17 year old takes care of infants to elementary school children; everyone thinks she is in college when she will enter her senior year of high school in august. No matter who you choose; you shouldn't settle, always let them know your expectations and do your own background check.
I work PRN at Centennial Medical Center and when I have needed assistance I have used Mom's Best Friend. They have fully trained nanny's that you can view their profile before they come to sit for you. I only work a couple days a week and stay home with my one year old and almost three year old. I would be up for babysitting for you, I live in Frisco. I love my kiddos and grew up babysitting my family, friends, and neighbors. Good luck!
I have in home daycare register with the state cpr/first cert.
Would love to help
T.

We used Caring Hands when my daughter was an infant (5-6 years ago) at the recommendation of a friend. It was hit or miss - some that we really loved and some that we asked never to have again. But the ones we would never have again weren't terrible - I just didn't feel as comfortable with them.
We ended up hiring our replacement nanny through them. She had been our sitter on and off for several months when our first nanny fell and injured herself. When the nanny decided to take a full time job, we needed to find someone for one year until my daughter entered preschool. It was worth paying the hefty fee to buy the sitter out of the agency because we interviewed many nannies - younger and older - and didn't feel at all comfortable with them as compared to the Caring Hands Agency sitter we ended up hiring.
I would call them again if we needed a sitter, but we haven't hired one in ages since my daughter is now in school and my parents live nearby and can watch her in the evenings.

The last time I used a sitter service they sent this really old, frail lady to sit my then rambunctious toddlers. I could tell she'd be putting them straight to bed.
Sorry, wish I had a better experience.
I know what you mean about teenagers now....When I babysat in the 70's....I would do all the dishes, take care of the kids, fold laundry....for about $2 an hour. Girls now can't load a dishwasher....
If you use a sitter, ask who they would be sending, that you want consistency and someone who can get on the ground and play.
I used sittercity out of desperation and found a great sitter for my kids. I used her for about 2 years. We loved her! I did install nanny cams as she was here all day everyday, but soon gave her some freedom to take then to the park and such. I was scared to death first, but it turned out really well!
LOL, My daughter is 16 1/2 and is first choice for a few families around my neighborhood.
GEES... she also knows how to change a diaper and put dishes in the dishwasher!
We are in far North Plano/West Allen. She drives. She averages $12-$15 an hour. She does not set her rates... there is competition between families for her.
Good luck!
